But, Sir the RCWS will be on commander side unlike in the vid its on Loader Side ..
Kunal sir it cant be put on that area on Mk-2.
Kunal sir it cant be put on that area on Mk-2.
Sir OFB make Russian T90S tank with ERA, DRDO could have borrowed that,
@sayareakd Sir, Long back we discussed about ERA of MK2, I think the extra plate at back of ERA is actually NERA, The same NERA tiles on front Armour over chassis, In that scene this is a very effective Dynamic protection, A combo of both Heavy ERA and NERA ..
That's not technical possible. NERA needs slope in order to work.
It is just the end of the holding bracket for the ERA tiles...
That's not technical possible. NERA needs slope in order to work.
IMO the DPA being discussed use a non-explosive mean to disrupt ERA working like an ERA-Afaik, The defeat of HEAT rounds is due to the composition of the metal in that tile, Which make it bulg ..
The MK2 era is stright coming from K5 technology, Than in this case why not just bolt mount it like on T-90 ?
author knows lot about LAHAT..............Arjun MK II main battle tank may miss 2016 induction date | idrw.org
A key source in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said, the Israelis who customised the LAHAT (also a Hebrew word for 'incandescence') for firing from the 120 mm main gun of the Mark II variant, has gone back to the drawing boards for correcting the error.
The DRDO source said, 'This has delayed the induction of the tank a bit, but then we are telling the army that since the platform, the tank, is ready they can take it up, with the missile getting mated later.'
The tank itself has undergone about 89 major and minor 'improvements,' and still have a few unsolved issues which are decidedly 'minor' like changing the position of a light bulb or so.
The range of the LAHAT pay-load is about three-and-a-half kilometres on the plains and about two-and-a-half kilometres in the deserts.
LAHAT was originally developed 1992 by Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) for firing from their own Merkava MBT. With a diametre of about 105 mm, the anti-tank can be independently targeted or targeted through laser designation. The latter means an alternative platform can illuminate the target with the anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) homing in on the laser spot.
Till now the army has ordered 124 Mark IIs, while the DRDO is still attempting to get the army raise the demand to 500, which the DRDO source said, would make the production line viable.
Though the improvements sought by the army has increased the weight of the tank – from about 45 tonnes to 67 tonnes. It can still pivot by 360 degrees while firing. The crew comfort is considered to be of a very high order, beating the T-90 Russian MBT hollow, sources say.
Now the DRDO claims it is for the army to make up its whether it wishes to field it by 2016 or wait for the LAHAT to come online fully, before it accepts the ready for deployment MBT.
==============================Um, Not sure if this is the right time to join the conversation but the question is,
What exactly did they had to improve?
=================================Armament
The Arjun MBT is equipped with an indigenousy developed 120mm main rifled gun with fin stabilized Armour-piercing discarding sabot (FSAPDS) and high-explosive squash head (HESH) ammunition. An anti-personnel 7.62mm coaxial machine gun is fitted alongside the main gun and a 12.7mm machine gun is fitted at the top of the turret to aim aircraft and ground targets. An anti-helicopter round is also being developed to combat air threat to armour.
The tank has special containers to carry 39 projectiles of 120mm ammunition. These containers keep the ammunition away from the crew, providing an additional level of survivability. The rear-side faces of the turret are fitted with up to 12 smoke grenade dischargers. The weapon systems can be operated in silent watch mode with the help of an auxiliary power unit
========================Arjun self-protection
The newly developed Kanchan modular composite armour gives all-round protection to the tank from anti-tank ammunition. Kanchan has been manufactured by Defense Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) armour design and development division.
The armour is made of composite panels sandwiched between rolled homogeneous armour (RHA), which can defeat APFDS or HEAT rounds. The turret houses lightweight compact Kanchan armour. An option is also available to add explosive reactive armour. Mobile camouflaging system (MCS) technology is also being developed by the DRDO in collaboration with Barracuda Camouflaging Limited.
============================Fire control and observation
The Arjun is equipped with a computer-controlled integrated fire control system with a laser range finder. The system is jointly developed by BEL and IRDE. The day/ night stabilized sighting system is also incorporated in the system. The targets are hit with high first-round-hit probability and reduced reaction time. The system is capable of acquiring targets under all weather conditions, and the stabilisation system allows the main armament to accurately fire at targets on the move.
The gunner's main sight includes a day sight, thermal sight, a laser range finder and a stabilized head. Night vision facility is provided by a thermal imagery. The gunner and the commander can locate target in total darkness and in the presence of smoke, fog, snow, haze and dust. Targets can be found accurately with the laser range finder integrated on the main sight.
The panoramic sight allows commanders to have all-round surveillance on the battlefield without being disturbed by turret motion. The two axes rate gyro-mounted on the platform of the head mirror stabilize the view of the field, offering dual magnification.
Sounds like a perfect tank to count on during war. The only thing i could come up with was a better engine with more horsepower. That's about it
These are not improvements nor rectifications but upgrades ..
==============================
1. CLGM or LAHAT are currently can be used against flying platforms,
2. There is a thermobolic Rounds ..
3. Longer Perpetrator For FSAPDS
4. CL-20 based HEAT round ..
=================================
1. Enhanced Kanchan
2. Laser warning and counter measure

Electronic Panoramic sight ..

Arjun MK II main battle tank may miss 2016 induction dateThe Arjun MK II main battle tank (MBT) for the Indian Army may get delayed further than its pre-fixed 2016 induction date. Reason: Its Israeli Laser Homing Anti-Tank (LAHAT) guided missile has failed about 20 per cent of the times it was fired during last summer.
================================
@Kunal Biswas Dada, last I heard a year back was that ICL-20 syntheses process is so very expensive that it was unsuitable for mass production. Has there been any progress in this field?
Mark II logged over 3700 km in the Army's own range + the 2000 km in Avadi's range for a grand total of 5700 km. Then he talks about the missiles and the tank armaments. Main gun is 120 mm. rifled bore, which they check for 2 to 2.5 km. ranges, also testing at night and when tank is static or when tank is moving or when enemy target is static, all scenarios are tested for firing purposes. For missile testing they do them at min. range of 5 km. at least, though he says it can do 6+ km. They've tested with 22 missiles.
Final question reporter asks is if CVRDE is only making tanks for India or are there plans to export to some other countries. Dr. Sivakumar says there have been enquiries from other countries, but India's MoD has to take the decision to export.
==============================
Sir, 22 Missiles so far ..
================================
As far as i remember, They were working on a cheaper version of CL-20 ..
22 missile and 20 percent means, 4.4 missiles (who post such info)................Arjun MK II main battle tank may miss 2016 induction date

I don't know how you came to this conclusion, but the MB 838 engine used in the Arjun doesn't have more torque than the 1,500 hp engines from MTU and competitors.1400hp MTU engine has better torque for quick acceleration, Which is essential in battlefield than top speed ..
