Terracottas found in the megalithic burial provide a solid ground for the study of the Bhoota cult or Daivaradhane of coastal Karnataka.

This was the subject of last year's sleeper hit Kantara. To think , there's been a cultural continuity of nearly 2700-2800 years up until this day & age is mind boggling to say the least . I doubt one can find this level of continuity going back to pre historic times in any civilization .

Just for confirmation India's the only other existing "living" civilization from pre historic times besides China & we've no idea how much of pre historical traditions & customs have survived in Communist China.

The other ones in the Golden Crescent namely the Mesopotamian civilization & the ones in Anatolia besides the Egyptian civilization contemporaneous with the Indic & Sinic civilizations are long gone.

During cultural revolution under Mao, they did try to destroy everything ancient claiming that that old culture brought them down to knees Infront of Western Powers.

Lot of old books were burnt and many practices were banned. A lot of small cults perished.

However, by 1990s they realized how they can milk their ancient history to bind people together and have influence in west also.
They brought back many practices and revamped under the guidelines suitable to the Party.
