I found an interesting thing , bsf uses horses to guard specially borders near poonjaub .
They use desi breeds liks kathiyawadi .
Marwadi is more elegant but its very less in numbers.
Case in point this

While indian army uses foreign thoroughbred only , no indian breed.

Now , to differentiate between the two .
Look at the ears of the horses on both photos , the one with inward curved ears are either kathiawari or marwadi ( marwadi is taller ) both have this feature.
These two breeds are only ones in entire world with inward curved ears.
The army follows british tradition and uses british horses

Ancient Indian armies were used elephants extensively in combat until the Turk Mongolic cavalry made it obsolete.

The battle formations would usually involve a elephant with 3 to 5 riders.
1 mahout, rest combination of spearmen and archers.
Elephant were given protective cover around its body i.e. thick materials coverings it's eyes, ears leg joints etc.

Elephants were not so useful in close combat but had devastating effect in mid range.

It was a tank of its time.

Alexanders mentions in his book that the elephant charging would scare the horse's and dispel battle formations easily.

A point to note the elpehant in those time were larger.

Now about camels

This a the camel we all know, and you can see its a bsf camel patrol in the thar desert.
Now a funny thing has happened about army , since ladakh standoff army needs more supplies so the drdo high altitude lab has conducted trials of a new type of camels , the double humped camels which can carry 170 kilograms of weight .
The DIHAR lab of drdo has started supplying army with these camels to replace the army mules , we don't have a drone delivery system but we have something better.

Now that is also gone, basically brits called marwadi inferior horse but Rajput princes kept the breed alive , after azadi many princes lost thier lands monies etc .
So the breed was on the verge of extinction, Infact even today its illegal to export marwadi ghoda out of india

Marwadi breed is not very fast like arabian horse or through breed .
Its very resilient though, can walk for days in desert without resting and can stand under the sun for hours .
It has speed and its hardy way more hardy than through breed , it was a war horse after all.

I disagree, gupta empire fought huns for centuries , they used more cavalry than war elephants .
Reason is they copied the kushans in cavalry and relied less and less on eleoahnts .
Yes kingdoms in the south did continue to use them because the terrain didn't allow large horse armies.
