Yes during the age of exploration europenas carried cats to hunt mice on the ships , wahan se ye tradition ho gyaa and indiam navy too has ship
cats.
I think that this tradition goes way beyond Europeans, after all Indians chinese and middle eastern or Roman's travelled tye world seas way before western Europeans.
So ship cats tradition is very old and seriously saying it was a necessity back then

Yes a unsinkable sam , this cat was first on a German ship it sank , the kitty survived then on a brit ship it sank the kitty survived and then again on a brit ship finally retired and lived with a retired sailor of royal navy.
