India currently has INS Vikramaditiya and will get INS Vikrant in the future.

Both are STOBAR type carriers and thus can't make an aircraft takeoff with full load and forget the operation of fixed wing AWACS from them.

Can we convert them into CATOBAR in their midlife upgrade?

INS Viraat and INS Vikrant(R11) were both CATOBAR before they were converted into STOVL.
Can't we just reverse the process?

Also why did the navy chose to convert them into STOVL anyway??
