Amazing. I just wish we ordered more. 40-50 Apaches would have been perfect.
Well they are expecting LCH/Rudra combo to make up the bulk of the helo force.

If you look at the US ORBAT, our current combined apache orders are sufficient to equip only a single aviation brigade. In our context that would mean a single IBG. So we need a lot more to make up numbers and buying an expensive platform like Apache (it's capabilities notwithstanding) is not financially feasible unless Boeing offers MII option.

In any case the leadership has little to no clue about the utilisation of helicopters as force multipliers. If you look at the current inventory and future orders and the haphazard way in which they are used, one can rightly surmise that this tool does not feature highly on any planner's list.

Lch just like lca and alh will improve with interation.

Lch is primarily designed for high altitude warfare hence Apache are needed now. But next version of lch will be geared towards warfare at plane with more armour and long bow type radar.

Anyway with Sant being operational soon. Lch will be able to hit enemy tank formation from 20 km away thus negating the need of heavy armour.

Lch will have many versions , high altitude , ground warfare , naval operations.etc.

For the price of 40 Apaches you could get >200 LCHs. Are 40 Apaches more useful than 200 LCH? Not at all.

Apaches will be useful as force multipliers only but they shouldn’t be ordered in lieu of more LCH. 22 Apaches for IAF 39-50 for IA is plenty. IA needs to
Focus on getting 100++ LCH.

I think it's about time IA starts preparing for AH-1Z type attack helicopter.

More payload and will help our rotorcraft industry.

Indian Army may acquire 39 American Apache choppers to enhance fire power at Pakistan, China borders
https://www.indiatoday.in/mail-toda...an-border-indo-china-border-978123-2017-05-20

The Indian Army has plans to have such 39 Apache attack helicopters along with 100 Rudra choppers, designed and developed by HAL. Presently, the Indian Army operates around 400 Cheetah and Chetak helicopters, which are generally called a lifeline for soldiers deployed at high-altitude, inaccessible posts. Besides, the Army has fleet of indigenous Dhruv light combat helicopters.

39 will come but it’s a question of when.

Currently the MOD is pursuing 6 for the Army as part of the follow on clause of the original Apache deal for IAF.

As far as I know this order for 6 still hasn’t been placed and thus production for those 6 hasn’t commenced. Maybe they’ll come by 2023. All 39 by 2025-6, by that time 100++ LCH will be in service across IA and IAF.

Rajnath Singh to induct Apache attack choppers into Air Force
The Indian Air Force (IAF) will officially get its first batch of Apache attack helicopters at the Pathankot Airbase in Punjab on September 3.

"Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will induct the most advanced choppers into the Air Force on September 3 in presence of top IAF and other senior officers," IAF officials said here on Thursday.

The Apache Guardian attack helicopters, often called 'tanks in the air' as they are armed with deadly missiles and rockets, have arrived at the Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad.

The Boeing-manufactured Apaches will be based at the Pathankot and Jorhat Airbases to cater for the western and eastern fronts.

The first squadron of Apaches, armed with Stinger air-to-air missiles, Hellfire Longbow air-to-ground missiles, guns and rockets, will be commissioned at Pathankot on September 3.

The Army is also on course to get six Apaches at a cost of Rs 4,168 crore. At present, the IAF has just two aging squadrons of Russian-origin Mi-25/35 attack helicopters.

Apache helicopter ‘capable to take out’ 16 enemy’s tanks during sortie

“We’re able to go out there and maneuver effectively and get down low in the trees and really find those targets out far, up to eight kilometers, and engage and destroy them before they can affect friendly lines,” explains U.S. Army Capt. Eric Moore, apache commander, with 1st Sqn. 6th Cav. Reg., 1st CAB, 1st Inf. Div.

Each of the eight Apaches are capable of firing 16 hellfire missiles and 300 rounds of 30mm, giving them the ability to take out 16 tanks were they to engage each one with a missile.

Can an Israeli missile give US Army aviation an advantage in future warfare?

In the mountainous desert of Arizona, an AH-64E helicopter hiding behind 1,600 feet of craggy mountain fires a missile at a target representing a Russian Pantsir medium-range, surface-to-air missile system on the opposite slope.

Maneuvering outside of the Russian system’s range, the Apache pilot was able to fire and control the Spike missile. And the Army took its experiment further by having the Apache fly at a low altitude — only a couple hundred feet above the highest obstacle in the desert — when firing the missile.

A long-range precision munition like Spike — which has the capability to defeat targets 32 kilometers away — provides the Army’s fleet with the standoff it needs from enemy targets, and it gives Army aviation an integral role in Multi-Domain Operations— the Army’s war-fighting doctrine under development. The standoff capability allows the fleet to target threats from a relatively advantageous position, as well as evade and penetrate enemy lines of defense, which leaves open a window for further maneuvering into denied territory.

Holy cow. 32 km anti tank missile ! India should by spike from Israel and integrate into lch rather than buying expensive Apaches.

Apache has better armour but If lch can hit enemy tank from 30 km away who needs an armour.
Sant will give 20km + range anyway but until that is ready just order spike + lch and be done with it.

That's an overkill for anti tank roles. 16 hellfires fired from 8 kilometers away at tank formations will be more effective and deadly.

The purpose of testing 32-km class missile on Apache is to use it to cripple point air defense systems.

Well firing at tank formations from so far out prevents the helos from coming within mobile SAM radius. I assume that this is aimed more towards fighting the Russians or Chinese not Iraqi armour

That being said how you going to achieve OTH targeting ???

LCh doesnt have any radar to use long range standoff weapons unless data is passed off via datalink from other platforms,it has flir and laser designator as main targeting mediums and hms.Its a cheap, agile helo meant for mountain ops,not for tanks on plains as such. There is

LCH doesnt have a radar, only laser designator, camera and flir with integrated hms.The magic of the apache is in the longbow radar, and once you are datalinked with it you can see what it can see.
