Good one Jaiswal but 6,000km is not ICBM i think it should qualify as IRBM. The ICBMs start at the range of 10,000km+ So i dont understand how we started calling even the A5 as ICBM!

I don't think its independent missile. Must be offshoot of A5. Having a surface & miniaturized variant to launch from sub is good.

Good development if true. Somehow I am not able to digest it.

If we are talking about SLBMs with MIRVs, then where are the warheads for it? India seems to have more or less capped the warhead production though we may have a lot of fissile material.

Or it's possible that Indian establishment is really doing a great job of deception.

GK why you want to take punga with uncle, once this missile is installed on Nuke sub then it will get additional legs to reach any place in globe.

hai GLK.
By the way ICBM defination is of a missile with range more than 5500 kms.

Intercontinental ballistic missile

.
.
An intercontinental ballistic
missile (ICBM) is a ballistic
missile with a long range (greater
than 5,500 km or 3,500 miles)

typically designed fornuclear
weapons delivery (delivering one
or more nuclear warheads). Due
to their great range and
firepower, in an all-outnuclear
war, land-based and submarine-
based ballistic missiles would
carry most of the destructive
force, with nuclear-armed
bombers having the remainder.

THIS MISSILE IS ACTUALLY ORIGINATED IN 2007 as AGNI-4.
.

this news was from 2007
for Agni4

13 Dec 2007, 0143 hrs
IST,TNN
NEW DELHI: In what
could
provide India greater
strategic
depth, the government
on
Wednesday announced
its plan
to develop 6,000-km
range Agni-
IV missile which will be
capable
of destroying targets
deepin
China.

The announcement is
seen as a
move to send out strong
signals
to countries in the
neighbourhood. Any
missile with
a range of more than
5,000 km
stationed in south or
central
India would be out of the
range
of most capable missiles
in
Pakistan's arsenal while it
would
be able to hit targets in
eastern
and northern China with
cities
like Beijing and Shanghai
in its
ambit.
The 3,500-km Agni-III,
which was
successfully test-fired in
April,
will not be able to reach
cities
like Beijing unless it is
deployed
in eastern states near the
Chinese border.
Top scientist V K Saraswat
of
the Defence Research
and
Development
Organisation
(DRDO) said the Agni-IV
project was in the
design
stage and its trials and
development could take
a few
years.

Saraswat said the DRDO
would carry out three
more
tests of Agni-III over the
next
yearwith the second trial
of
the missile slated by June.
The
3,500-km range missile,
which
has the capacity to carry a
nuclear payload of upto
1.5
tonnes, is likely to be
inducted
into the forces by 2009
after
at least three successful
tests.
The DRDO scientist said
India
would have a complete
ballistic
missile defence (BMD)
system in
three years â€" ready and
deployed. The system will
have
interceptor missiles that
can hit
targets 50-km above the
atmosphere and
supersonic
interceptors that can
eliminate
endo-atmospheric targets
15-km
within the atmosphere.
Believed to be superior to
America's Patriot, the
BMD
system has been in
development
for the last eight years. As
part
of the programme, the
Prithvi air
defence missile was tested
in
November 2006 while
advanced
air defence interceptor
was
tested this month.
The development of
6,000-km
Agni-IV also indicates
that the
country has shelved
plans to
develop Inter-
Continental
Ballistic Missiles which
would
have hit far away
targets. There had been
speculations of
India developing an
ICBM
named Surya with a
range of
more than 10,000-km.

However,
in light of the ongoing
negotiations on Indo-US
nuclear
deal, it is quite possible
that
India may not like to
annoy US.

^^^^^^ now from my above post u can easly understand that India is indeed developing a 6000km range agani missle.
Its disgine and development had started way back in 2007 thus we can easily assume that this missile will be ready for test in 2-3years and for deployment in 5-6 years. At that time it is known as Agni-4 and now known as Agani-6.

Way to go drdo.

How many warheads are planned for this missile???
its no. Of warheads are not conferemed but according to B.R. forum it is between 3-5 seperate warheads, each one is programed individually and may be very manuverable during there dessent.

2007-07-07 India announced the
launch of two major missile
programmes - the extended
version of the intermediate range
ballistic missile Agni III,
successfully tested this year, and
a strategic naval missile which is
also capable of carrying nuclear
weapons.
The Agni III was successfully
launched this year and the new
missile which may be called the
Agni IV, will have a range of
nearly 6,000 kilometres - enough
to target India's major rivals. The
missile should be ready in two
years.
The DRDO is also readying a
strategic, nuclear-capable missile
for the Navy. While the DRDO is
not going into the details, the
missile is likely to be submarine-
launched and is to be ready in
three years. This will give India
the triad - the ability to launch
nuclear weapons from land,
under-sea and the air. DRDO is
confident about the completion
of the project and says there are
no more difficulties.
It's a strategic missile, so I can't
talk much about it. But yes,
definitely we have done a lot of
work in the propulsion system of
such a missile, control and
containerisation of these missiles,
and I think these elemental
technologies are very vital.
I am
sure that at an appropriate point
of time the country will reveal it.
The missile can be got ready in
2-3 years, but it is the
technologies we are more
focused on," said M K Natarajan,
Scientific Advisor.
Agni missile programme
extended
Also, the Agni Missile Programme
has also been extended. The
improved telemetry and
electronics package will make
the missile more compact. A
compact design will
accommodate another motor in
the missile. The motor will have a
solid propellant, hence better
controls are needed. This is
expected to make it possible to
strike anywhere in China, which
has intercontinental ballistic
missiles. The range of rocket has
been extended by 1,500 km.

Given the technology improvement, India may eventually develop a missile that can hit South America. But it still will act merely as a deterrent. Although in these short video it was claimed as "dragon killer" or "China killer", I'm sure India is not foolish to launch such weapon toward China at first place, because such act could also bring many "India killer" back to India. Even a medium size border war with China does not justify using it.

So, bottom line, it's a weapon for nation's survival, it's defensive rather than offensive

Absolutely. Nuclear weapons are not weapons of war, they are weapons of diplomacy.

No one is stupid enough to actually use nukes.

Now we have two long range SLBM under development!!

IMO they should take the best out of two and make a new missile instead of wasting resources on two missiles or scrap Agni SLBM for K-X since IN is more interested in K series missiles.
