Second test-firing of Agni-V missile next month | idrw.org

Working at a fast pace towards production and induction of Agni-V missile into the forces, Defence Research and Development Organisation is reportedly planning its second test fire next month. The maiden test fire of Agni-V, the first intercontinental ballistic missile of India, was carried out in April 2012. The successful trial catapulted the country into the exclusive ICBM club comprising six elite countries, United States of America, Russia, China, France and United Kingdom.

Dr V G Sekaran, chief controller R&D (Missiles & Strategic Systems) and programme director, Agni, said that while no date has been fixed for the test as of now, it will be conducted in September. "This test shall be aimed at repeatability of the previous test for stabilizing the performance of sub-systems," he said, adding that DRDO is working at starting the production and delivery phase by 2015 for Agni-5. Dr Sekaran further revealed that the forthcoming test fire is a part of development trials (usually 2-3, if successful) and the user trials will start after this.

Meanwhile, DRDO is leaving no stone unturned for kick starting the canisterization process for Agni V by this year end. Simultaneous qualification tests will be conducted for the same as well. Canister launch of the missile will enable higher flexibility in launching speedy firing from any location on a road.

The indigenously developed 50-tonne long range surface-to-surface ballistic missile Agni-V, which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead weighing more than a tonne, has a 5,000 km range as per DRDO officials, who confirmed that preparations are at full swing at Wheeler Island off the Odisha coast for a September launch. Once inducted, India's range with respect to missile reach would include the entire Asia as well as parts of other continents. Agni V will be inducted into the force equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-Entry Vehicles (MIRVs) for shooting multiple warheads at the same time.

RCI is the premier DRDO Laboratory spearheading the design, development and delivery of state-of-the-art avionics systems for the entire Indian missile development programmes.

Looks like their is urgency to induct the system as it is and after 3rd successful test all the new things like canister and MIRV will be tested. What i get is the feeling they dont want to delay A5 induction because of the stupid actions from panda land. Some urgency is evident and failure is not an option.

Expect K4 to hush up. K15 is under production for about two years. I thin K4 and A5 will enter service together or around same time.

As per media reports, India is all set to test fire two Strategically important missile systems from its arsenal . Second launch of Agni-V is scheduled for next month, after it was first test fired in April last year and created massive buzz in political and military circles all over the world.

Agni-V launch propelled India into "Elite nuclear club", Club where countries not only possess Nuclear weapons but also such long range missiles systems to deliver nukes to their intended target deep in enemy territory. Second test will be validating reliability and repeatability of the previous test for stabilizing the performance of sub-systems.

DRDO is already working to development of Canister version of Agni-V, which will be tested by late 2014; Canister variant of the missile will enable higher flexibility in launching and speedy firing from any location on a road. DRDO has planned total 3 tests, before user trials of the missile starts and enters production by late 2015.

Another Game changer missile officially making its debut will be 3,500 km range K-4 submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM); K-4 launch is also scheduled to have its first publicly acknowledged test launch from a submerged pontoon off the Visakhapatnam coast also in September. next month's test of K-4 most likely will be final development trial or one of any developmental trials of the missile, since it has been long rumoured that first test firing of K-4 might have taken place way back in 2010 itself.

K-4 will be game changer for India in many ways, not only it will complete India's third leg of the nuclear deterrent (air and ground-launched weapons being the other two) and will also be ideal invulnerable second strike weapon stated in the nuclear doctrine. K-4 even with reduced payload will be able to hit from Bay of Bengal into deeper Chinese cities while staying far away from coast waters of china.

Agni V total weight + canister vehicle weight = Dhruv lift capacity ?

I know C-130 can move it .. but what if we want to launch it from a place where C-130 can not land safely..

Dhruv payload 2.5 ton, C-130 J payload 20 ton, but Agni-V missile wt. (w/o canister) is 50 tons.

With canister it will be more.

So, if you want to transport by Air, C-17 is the only plane available in India (70 ton + payload) which can do so.

No helicopter available at present worldwide can lift the A-5.

I know C-130 can move it .. but what if we want to launch it from a place where C-130 can not land safely..

Also I think moving in Dhruv is much cheaper than in C-130..

I know C-130 can move it .. but what if we want to launch it from a place where C-130 can not land safely..

Also I think moving in Dhruv is much cheaper than in C-130..

Dhruv useful load = 2.6mt
C-130J useful load = 33mt

Both of them would not be able to carry Agni-V.

C-17 useful load = 77mt, and C-17 cargo hold volume 20.78 m x 5.49 m x 3.76 m

Agni V weight = 50mt, and dimensions 17.5 m x 2.0 m

So, only C-17 is technically capable to transport Agni-V

Agni-V gets ready for second test

Agni-V, India's longest-range, nuclear-weapons-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile, will be tested from Wheeler Island in Odisha around September 15.

According to a top official at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), preparations were under way for the second developmental trial of the 5,000-km-range missile. The maiden flight test carried out on April 19 last was a stupendous success and injected India into a group of select nations that possessed the technology for developing Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).

Here I read that Agni-V is expected to enter service with the Indian Army by 2014-15. With the successful launch of Agni-V, India has joined the elite club of nations such as the US, Russia, China, France and the UK which possess LRBM capability.

Good that we are testing it, there is enough provocation on the border with China as it is. Also, some preparations are being seen such as:

> 3 Su-30 Squadrons raised in N-E
> 4th Regiment of Brahmos raised in N-E (missile optimized for Mountain strikes)
> Artillery units raised in N-E (with 105mm gun)
> Landing of C-130 and C-17 aircraft in ALBs (legacy aircraft continue to land as before)
> Quick and coordinated rescue by Armed Forces in Uttarakhand tragedy.
> 2nd Agni 5 test
> Arihant launch (hopefully!)
> 1 Kilo to be leased as per some press reports
> Upgrade 2 Type-209 Subs with missile capability
> Lease of 2nd Akula undertaken
> 2 New Divisions confirmed raised in N-E (I think 57 and 71st Division)


Also, some organic factors like when "Times Now" showed Chinese intrusion, our guys atleast had Cold Weather clothing, 2 way radios and INSAS rifles, an Young Officer leading them seemed good.

India's nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni-V to be test-fired on Sunday

India's most capable weapon, the Agni-V nuclear-capable ballistic missile, is all set to be tested from the Bay of Bengal on September 15. The 5,500-km range missile, capable of striking targets anywhere in China when operational, is being tested for the second time after its debut launch in April last year.

Top sources said, "Scientists on the programme have spent most of the last 16 months studying the telemetry and performance data of the first test and fine-tuning all systems, including the navigation system and on board systems."

The indigenous systems that will be further tested and monitored closely in Sunday's test include all-composite rocket motor, fifth generation distributed on-board computer architecture, ring laser gyro-based inertial navigation system (RINS), the completely new redundant micro navigation system and the crucial re-entry shield, built to withstand temperatures in excess of 4,000 degrees celsius. A more capable cannisterised version of the Agni-V is likely to be tested in December this year.

In July, DRDO chief Dr Avinash Chander, formerly director on the Agni programme, told Headlines Today, "We'll induct the Agni IV and V inducted in the next two years. It's the first time we will be inducting strategic missiles with such long ranges together. Agni III, IV and V are going to be the thrust areas. They give us the reach which we need, and are our highest priority now. Within two years we have to make sure that it happens."

While the Agni-V's second test was expected in the September-October period, it comes shortly after a season of provocations along the India-China border, and is likely to be interpreted as a show of strength.

The second test of India's 5,500+ km range Agni-V ballistic missile is scheduled for Sunday, Sept 15 from Wheeler Island in the Bay of Bengal. This will be the second test of India's longest range strategic nuclear-capable weapon after its debut test on April 19 last year.
