Agni-5 to be test-fired next month: DRDO Chief | idrw.org

India will soon enter the elite club of nations having the Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) capability with the Agni-5 getting ready for its first test launch next month.

"The first flight of the Agni-V missile is likely to take place next month," DRDO Chief V K Saraswat said here today.

The agency is in the final stages of integration of the missile and its components taking place in a DRDO lab in Hyderabad and the equipment required to study the flight of the missile and its accuracy are being put in place.

Preparations are also in full swing at the test facility in Wheeler island and other labs which will participate in the launch.

Saraswat while talking to reporters earlier this month had said that all the development and industry partners participating in the programme will be present during the first test flight of the missile to witness the test launch.

DRDO plans to conduct more such tests of the missile over the next one year after studying and analysing the parameters achieved in each subsequent trial.

On the timeline fixed for fully developing the Agni-5, Saraswat had said that another one year of testing will be involved.

In November last year, DRDO had successfully test fired the 3,500 km range Agni-4 missile giving muscle to India's deterrent capability against the military adversaries.

two things are interesting ICBM is 5500 or more km, but we kept it at 5k, second interesting part is equipment is ready for testing it, not mention here is x band radar which will moniter entire flight. If it works to moniter entire flight, then next generation of interceptor would come soon.

First launch of new missile takes time they have learn from A4 launch, if it fails then it will take lot of time for second launch, so delay is better then first failure, plus it sends good signal to our enemy that first test is successful, so far, A3 and A4 both had first failed test.

hope this time we will break that jinks.

Preparations for Agni-V launch hit last lap | Missile payload on way to Wheeler Island

By Anantha Krishnan M
Express News Service
Bangalore: India's longest-ever near-Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Agni-V is scheduled to be test-fired from the Wheeler Island (Orissa) in the second week of April. The final stages and payload of the missile are set to move out of the Missile Complex in Hyderabad any time now. Sources tell Express that some major parts, including the motors of the missile, have already reached the launch site.
"The final checks and integration of all stages will be carried out in Wheeler Island. The check-out and launch pad tests will be completed in the next 15-20 days. The new launcher for the missile is ready. Over 200 scientists and close to 300 technicians are working round-the-clock at the Missile Complex and other work centers," sources said. The missile is parented by Defence Research Development Organisation's (DRDO) Hyderabad-based unit, Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL).
With a range of 5,000-plus-km, the missile when launched, is expected to travel to its target in international waters close to Australia. "The ships meant for tracking, which are normally positioned near the target, are expected to begin their long journey in the first week of April. We expect the sailing time to be between 10-12 days," sources said.
Agni-V is the first Indian missile with four stages, including three propulsion and one final payload stage (re-entry vehicle). The others in the Agni series (A-2, A-3 & A-4) had only three stages making Agni-V an extremely complex vehicle. "The missile is expected to hit the target within 20 minutes as things stand now. The tentative date for the launch is fixed for April 16 and this is again not final," sources said.
As reported in these columns earlier, Agni-V can be launched from anywhere in India in any direction at any time.

yeah but A5 is supposed to have 4 stages as per the blog news. how come warhead/RV which has fuel to get pass BMD can be taken as stage ??
The small directional thrusters in RV can not be termed as an stage in missile. Either this is some new concept introduced by DRDO or by our expert news reporters.

Old new's : Agni 3 and 4 will Get New Warheads Post 2015

The Agni's new warheads, says the DRDO, will include five cutting-edge technologies:

They will be multiple warheads (Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicles, or MIRVs), with each missile delivering several warheads at the same, or even different, targets.

Decoy warheads, which will be fired alongside the genuine warheads, so that enemy's missiles are wasted in attacking decoys, rather than the real warheads.

Manoeuvring warheads, which will weave through the atmosphere, dodging enemy missiles that are fired at it.

Stealth technologies to make the warheads invisible to enemy radars.

Changing warheads' thermal signatures, to confuse the enemy's infrared seekers.

This technologies will be Integrated on Soon to be tested A5,DRDO is Carrying out R&D on MARV Warheads
