Lets banish the thought of Trump winning a second term, it won't happen for two simple reasons - 1. He has 91 charges between two states plus two federal indictments, even if he gets convicted on one or two of those charges, they'll throw the book at him and give him the maximum penalty. I just don't see him beating all the charges, and no, Georgia's Fulton County DA having an affair with her lead prosecutor won't really matter because even if she steps down, the case will go on. And 2. As much as i support some of Trump's policies, and would take him over the new Biden who now leans more hard left than his boss Obama, Trump has this effect of consolidating the opposition. We saw this in the midterms, we saw this in 2020 as well that independents, women, below 40 population, minorities etc came out in record numbers to vote against Trump, this will happen again in 2024.
Think about it, Trump handpicked candidates in 2022 midterms for the key swing states, and every one of those candidates lost! There is no ways Trump is winning those states (PA,AZ,MI,GA,WI) where his candidates lost by big margins, and with increasing "purpleization" of some previously blood red states like NC,WI,GA,OH,NV etc. it is a daunting task for him to win again.
Republicans find themselves in an unenviable position, to win they need to win over women, independents, millenials and some minorities. They also need to appear as centrist and learn to be proactive rather than reactive. Raking up the abortion issue to satisfy the hard conservative evangelical base while pissing off women was a terrible mistake. The democrats will continue to attack them from all angles, and it will take someone with a lot of leadership qualities and also tact and finesse to defeat the liberals in their own game, and Trump isn't that guy. It wasn't until 2012 that the party started outreaching to minorites, and with baby boomer population rapidly perishing, GOP needs to wake up to a fast changing demographic makeup of the country, how they will do it with someone like Mitch McConnel, Mike Johnson, Ronna McDaniel etc i don't know.
