Maybe it really is a practice exercise aimed at scaring Vietnam. Land exercises are an easy way of scaring neighbours. I don't think a Chinese invasion of Vietnam is imminent, because things between China and Vietnam have not deteriorated to that extant.

I understand the situation between China and Vietnam. My point is an invasion doesn't seem imminent.

North and south korean armies are much more prepared for war than that of india and pakistan. Koreans are prepared to go to war any day.. Even last november naval skirmishes broke out between north and south. Please see link.. So its no big deal..

As for the South korean economy dying due to sustained conflict situation, think about North korean situation.. Already its impoverished and starving. How do you think it is going to survive..?
