I think if operation brasstacks wouldn't have been stopped then their would have been no nuclear armed pakistan and pakistan would have been broke into more 4 pieces.

in 1987 a butt poor India was in no real capacity to deal with a disintegrating Pakistan. It would have been inherently 10 times worse for us.

Not even going to comment on the fact if we ACTUALLY had the military capability to occupy Territory in Pakistan to force such a scenario.

But yes if the Pakis had taken the bait their nuclear program would have been set back a couple of decades. but it wouldnt have been eradicated. Paks Nuclear program came with the blessing and capital of Saudi Arabia - which also means open door access to a number of European tech/know how suppliers.
