The Chinese Flankers (J-11s) currently have the NIIP Tikhomirov N001V. The J-11D is the new version which will be upgraded with the new Chinese AESA radar. The efficacy of these new Chinese AESA radars is not yet known however. That's very detailed but also very old info .2008 year data. It says Indian su30mki to be upgraded with aesa post 2015!

It also portrays how irbis E is still as powerful as some aesa radars. Interesting stuff .

But looking at aesa power and output with module count even if Chinese put a 1500 t/r module aesa with much less power rating etc it should still be much batter than previous n001 and could very well match or exceed bars m .

Now the problem is Russian aesa is not ready and going for irbis E Will be half baked solution as su30mki needs very powerful full aesa with very long range bvr to stay relevant in the era of stealth.

I doubt Russia wants Israelis looking at their source code. Just put Astra 2 on MKI and call it a day.
Astra mk2 will anyway be integrated to su30mki.
Just like mk1 su30 will be test and integration platform of choice.

As Uttam AESA is already in testing, can't we make it bigger with more TRM for Su30mki?

Depends on Indo Russian understanding of su30 contract. If we can put our own radar than Uttam will be scaled up for su30mki. But chances are losing radar upgrade contract may be too big a loss for Russia to agree.

We must get UTTAM ready as soon as possible and a bigger version of same with more TR modules should be put in MKI. It should immediately be equipped with Astra Mk 1 and MK2 followed by SFDR missile. If this can not be done in coming couple years, we should go for Israeli AESA and Iderby of METEOR is not possible.

I don't see any problem in integrating Indian stuff. Russians can have objections for IsreaIi or western things. We already have integrated Astra BVR and Brahmos without their help.

Astra mk2 and sfdr must be fast tracked. Astra mk2 building blocks are ready. We have dual pulse motor of ngram and we have indegenios seeker. Just need to fit in a smaller package then ngram and test it .

(Possibly RVV-MD or RVV-SD)

Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully test fired a Russian air-to-air missile on June 19. The missile fired from frontline combat aircraft Sukhoi-30 MKI destroyed a target drone off Odisha coast. Defence sources said the short-range air-to-air missile was fired from the fighter aircraft as part of a user trial. The exercise was aimed at gauging the killing efficiency of the weapon system.

The aircraft that took off from Kalaikunda air base in West Bengal fired the beyond visual range air-to-air missile after taking several sorties.The missile successfully intercepted the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Banshee over Bay of Bengal.The British drone was flown from the Integrated Test Range (ITR). While the whole exercise was carried out by IAF personnel, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) provided all logistic supports.

“Two fighter aircraft were engaged in the exercise. One was used as attacker and the other as chaser. After the attacker fired the missile, the chaser tracked its movement and firing precision. The entire exercise was conducted in a real-time scenario,” said an official.

The Russian missile has been procured by India for IAF in order to develop a multi-layered aerial shield for cities against strikes by manned or unmanned air vehicles flying at low and medium altitudes.

Sources said the missile has the capability to efficiently engage targets at both low and medium altitudes in less than 10 seconds.The missiles used for the test were selected randomly from the lot. “Several more rounds of tests of the missile using a combination of aircraft including MiG and Mirage have also been planned in next two days,” the official informed.

The mission is crucial for the IAF as several cities and vital installations in the country are vulnerable to aerial strikes. Supplemented by indigenously developed Astra air-to-air missile, the Russian missiles can enhance aerial security. This apart, duration of stability on air and endurance of Banshee was also tested during the exercise. Fitted with integrated GPS, autonomous waypoint navigation and digital telemetry systems, the UAV is suitable for use on land and at sea.

Any information about K-77 M in the mix. It has an active aesa seeker.. a range of around 200 km.. and weighs a lot less than RVV-BD.. so aircraft other than su-30 mki could also carry it...

Yes.. he said that K-77M was bought... but some of its components used to be manufactured by Ukrainian company Artem... Maybe Russia has indigenised these components... Also since R-77-1 was spotted on Su-35 in Syria... Maybe the K-77m which is more advanced is operational... But, I have not come across any article confirming it... Please share in case you come across one..

He was the first to say that we have procured hundreds of R-77 on an urgent basis. Then everyone was going bonkers on the I Derby Er missile and it's integration with Su-30MKI.

This will make Indian airforce the very first airforce to operationalize the K-77M,even before the VKS.
