Just wondering.... Can we use one of the decommissioned Tu 142 as test bed in similar fashion ?View attachment 24781
And what will you get? A result from instruments and equipments of which type? Data analysis by which agency ?which would be authenticated by which agency ? and certified for safety by ? And accepted by which Airforce?

Answer these questions and you will get the result.

Do you understand that such planes are actually used as test beds. The data analysis is done by GTRE and it is developmental trials, not certification test. During development, one has to repeatedly try and retry in such big planes. The planes are flown in high altitude and the engine performance at altitude is tested

That's what I want to understand, in which instrument you are going to test, log, and identify that the engine tests performed well. Oops before that you need to mount it on that test bed, and you need some agency to guarantee the safety of the test bed. Which one?

Same one which cleared Tejas for first flight.... I assume they had enough test equipment & logs to record data

Who made Tejas flight test/ Who made SARAS test? WHo made Kaveri engine tests till now? The same agency will also test Kaveri in bigger Tupolov plane

IMHO National Flight Testing Centre (NFTC), which is an agency of ADA, is responsible for all the flight test and aircraft instrumentation activities in India. India has a handful of FTBs such as a modified HS-748s, Dornier DO-228s and modified IL-76 (based at the Gromov Flight Research Institute, Moscow) operated by various Defence Research Laboratories such as Centre For Airborne System (CABS). India is also looking for a supersonic FTB on mig 29 or sukhois. kaveri might be mounted on one of these two when it is ready for another flight testing.

I am asking for the flight test of an engine and not an airframe powered by certified and reliable engine.

Funny part is the above guy wants a subsonic test over a tu platform converted into test bed by ADA without any experience in developing such platform , software, instrument, and authenticity and what is needed is the supersonic test in a supersonic platform. Probably India would lease mig29 test bed fr russia. For long term development India should collaborate and acquire one platform for engine, radar and electronics test bed from airbus with dedicated airbase for such activity. No agency could be world class without venturing into civilian and commercial segments.

Probably Parrikar, put the team on original solution... Go back to Kaveri & shed some weight... push Kaveri output up and we will be there.... lets see if safaranized kaveri comes up well in MK-1A as this is fastest route to self sufficiency.
Safran has had the contract ready to sign since last year. I guess Modi is in hibernation until after something?

WHo told you that India is incapable of converting a platform into test bed? India knows how to make such changes and has done it in the past. India does not always need to lease things out from Russia. Making a test bed out of big aircrafts is old technology. That is how engine tests were done even in 1970s.

Good to know now guide me to the history of doing that in India of such old technology.

Wouldnt that limit the speed at which it is tested?
The idea is to first test for thrust. The 90-100kN thrust for a big tupolov plane will not matter much and its speed will not go into supersonic. Nevertheless, the thrust rating of the engine at high altitude and subsonic speed can still be obtained. Once that is done, supersonic speed test is done. Testing in big planes is only the first step to ascertain the high altitude performance
