It's not about just people. It's the operational constraints. Combat ratio between India and Pak is 1.5 :1. Considering the mountainous terrain, we would need a ratio of a minimum 6:1 to capture vital areas/vital grounds. In addition we need a third of the entire force for holding on to the positions captured. For logistics support along the long and tennous lines of communications additional forces will be needed for security.

In short, we don't have the numerical superiority to conduct an operation to capture GB and hold on to it indefinitely.

We have large reserves to take care of ratio, enough locals are already on our side there.

I think the mountainous terrain will also work against Pakis who will try to retake it.....as access to GB is via only couple of feeder roads........IA can cut it off. Then India will have an edge.

Gilgit is geographically (via trade routes) connected to Pakistan... it never had a lot of connections with our part of J and K... Also those guys hated the Raja... and are ethnically different from people on our side of J and K..

Right now industry in North India has a big problem of distance from ports. Actually exports can be done efficiently using trains through Rajasthan, Sindh, Baluchistan, Iran and further to central Asia, West Asia, Russia etc.

Way through Iran is way more costly than that through Gilgit. We did it because we didn't want our trade route to pass through Afghanistan.
Sharing border with Afghanistan is essential for its militarization by India and challenging Taliban.

Kashmir will always be net negative for India. Kashmir is only a buffer, a no man's land so to speak. It has little economic value.

Kashmir was nothing negative for India before 80s.
Sindh will become worse because it has far more muzzie content than Kashmir.

Not PKR's fall today. It's global strengthening of dollar.

Both CN¥ and IN₹ also significantly devalued today.
