Ridiculous! Pakistan PM Imran Khan takes helicopter to work; minister says it's cheaper than car
After Pakistan's newly-appointed Prime Minister Imran Khan pledged an austerity drive, his use of a helicopter to commute to work daily has set the country abuzz. Coming to his defence is the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry who said that with Rs 50-55 per km, a helicopter trip from the PM's residence in Bani Gala to the PM's Secretariat works out cheaper than travelling by road. This, needless to say, left Pakistan Twitterati roaring with laughter with some even asking the minister to provide helicopters for public commute since it is so cheap.

While Chaudhry batted for the PM's right to use all the perks that comes along with leading a country, PTI MNA Ali Muhammad Khan listed the benefits of using the helicopter. He tweeted that considering that 5 to 7 vehicles are required for the PM's security, along with safety and no road blockage, using the helicopter for 3 minutes ends up being cheaper.

However, the ministers could not be far from the truth.

According to a report in BBC, the helicopter used by the PM is Augusta Westland's AW139. For the helicopter to fly one nautical mile costs around Rs 16,000 in Pakistani currency and Rs 9,200 by Indian standards.

Now the distance between Bani Gala and the PM Secretariat is roughly 15 km, which translates to around 8 nautical miles. In all, that turns out to be Rs 1,28,000 in Pakistan and Rs 73,635 in India.

Even taking into account the PM's convoy, the commute via road would not amount to such a huge price. The sum of Rs 55, which is roughly Rs 31 in India, is not even close to the actual price as the minister's claim. Cab hailing company Careem that operates in Pakistan, charges Rs 37-40 per km or around Rs 23 in Indian currency.

As mentioned in The Express Tribune, a retired army aviation officer said that a helicopter costs thousands of rupees to start off. He also added that perhaps the cheapest way for the PM to travel would be to jog, like Imran Khan does every morning.

Pakistan's Imran Khan government caves in to first brush with Islamic fundamentalists - and how

NEW DELHI: New Pakistan PM Imran Khan's government stuck it out for a few days there saying "we will not bow to extremists", but that position didn't last very long and under pressure from Islamic fundamentalists it told an economist to :rofl:step down from a key economic group:rofl:, reported Pakistan media.

:rofl:Why? Because the Princeton University economist Atif Mian is an 'Ahmadi'.:rofl:

The 'Ahmadi' sect, or the 'Ahmadiyyas', are a highly persecuted Islamic sect in Pakistan. And no matter that Mian is a highly-regarded international economist who could help pull Pakistan out of the financial mess it's in, the fact that he's an Ahmadi means he had to go:rofl: Ahmadiyyas are reviled, chiefly by the orthodox Sunni Muslims of Pakistan, because they don't believe that Mohammad is the last prophet sent to guide mankind.

Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government's appointment of Mian + was opposed by several individuals and groups, including the extreme Islamist group, the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). Yes, the same TLP that brought Islamabad to a standstill last November to protest what it believed was a watering down of the country's stringent blasphemy laws.

It appeared that for Khan and the PTI, economist Mian's faith was a private matter, and that it believed the state should have nothing to do with it, and that it really didn't matter. It's economics they were dealing with, not theology.

The PTI government firmly defended its choice and made strong statements about Pakistan being equally for minorities as it is for the majority groups.

"Should minorities in Pakistan be thrown out? What kind of people say things like this?" wondered Khan's minister of information Fawad Chaudhary at a public event, even as a vicious online campaign targeting Mian for being Ahmadiyya, reported newspaper Dawn earlier this week.

Chaudhry didn't stop there and expressed his scorn even more strongly.

"This is a man who the entire world is saying will receive a Nobel Peace Prize in the next five years. He has been appointed to the economic advisory council, not the Council of Islamic Ideology or something else," said Chaudhry.

"I don't think anyone should have objections (to Mian's appointment), and those who do, they are basically extremists and we will not bow to extremists...Pakistan belongs as much to minorities as it does to the majority," asserted the minister.

Chaudhry even posted a message on Twitter saying Pakistan's founding father Muhammad Ali Jinnah too appointed an Ahmadi, Muhammad Zafarullah Khan, as the country's foreign minister.

"We'll follow the principles of Mr Jinnah not of extremists," tweeted Chaudhry.

Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah Appointed Sir ZafarUllah as Foreign minister of Pak, we ll follow Principles of Mr… https://t.co/HVILy94lDC

— Ch Fawad Hussain (@fawadchaudhry) 1536062569000
The government's minister of human rights Shireen Mazari also came out in support and commended Chaudhry. "Exactly. Well put indeed. Time to reclaim space for the Quaid's Pakistan!"

The Princeton academic did get some support from people on social media. But the fundamentalists just wouldn't back down.

Just days later, on Friday, Khan's government capitulated to the extremists.

A PTI senator, Faisal Javed Khan, on Friday morning, tweeted saying Mian has agreed to give up his position on the council.

Atif Mian was asked to step down from the Advisory Council and he has agreed. A replacement would be announced later.

— Faisal Javed Khan (@FaisalJavedKhan) 1536292153000
Even minister Chaudhry, who mere days earlier, vociferously supported a pluralistic Pakistan, appeared to have had a huge change of heart going by his tweets Friday.

In fact, Chaudhry tweeted (in Urdu) - as translated by Dawn - even referring specifically to Mian's faith.

He said that Prime Minister Khan and his cabinet believe that the ideal state is Madina and hold the Prophet Muhammad in high esteem.

"Khatm-i-Nabuwwat [belief in the finality of the prophethood] is a part of our faith and the recent success achieved by the government in the matter of blasphemous sketches is reflective of the same connection," he wrote.

The capitulation was complete.
*********************************

pakistan will never SUCCEED, cuz it envisions a state like Madina..meaning very much islamic, islamic compliant life, giving no scope for technology, development or tolerance of any sort.

If such intolerance is shown openly, towards an esteemed paki person who has proven record in economics, the rest can be understood .The rot runs deep.

The funniest part is the Porkis make it sound like "Jinnah's Pakistan" was some paradise, an ideal to be followed.

A country founded on bigotry, violence, hatred by a whiskey-chugging pork-addicted vampyric backstabbing pedophile out of "Direct Action Day", the murder of Hindus and Sikhs, is suddenly some inclusive, multi-religious eutopia. I must say the country does embody the character of Jinnah pretty well - two-faced, deceitful, and absolutely hypocritical.

The idea of Porkistan is stupidity and jihad - a deadly combination. The country will eat itself at some point.

That idea is also popular among "Dawn" variety paki "liberals". They go on and on about how Jinnah was so sekular and pakistan was peaceful utopia before evil Zia came to power and islamised the whole country. As if pakistan wasn't a result of a bloody jihad from the beginning.

They need no reminding. In fact they need all others to forgive and forget their misdeeds. They hanker back to the days when their rule over the masses was unrestricted and unfettered and blasphemy was something that was used to keep the phata Abdul in control, not gun down RAPEs.

Pakistan Recalls Its UK Envoy Over 'Booze-Fuelled' Speech at London TV Awards Show
Sahebzada Ahmed Khan, the Pakistani High Commissioner to the UK, was purportedly drunk when he joined the Pakistani celebrities onstage during International Pakistan Prestige Awards (IPPA) at London's 2 arena on September 9.

New Delhi: A video of a 'drunk' Pakistani envoy has gone viral on social media, prompting Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to recall the diplomat and seek a written explanation.

Sahebzada Ahmed Khan, the Pakistani High Commissioner to the UK, was purportedly in an inebriated condition when he delivered a speech at International Pakistan Prestige Awards (IPPA) at London's 2 arena on September 9.

According to a report in The Express Tribune, the envoy also engaged in some 'light-hearted banter' with veteran actor-director Javed Sheikh. Other actors, including Ahsan Khan, Sarwat Gilani and Mehwish Hayat can be seen in the video. The audience can be heard laughing as Khan invites several popular faces to join him on stage.

'Dismayed' with the envoy's actions in public forum, Qureshi took to Twitter to announce that he has asked Khan to return to Pakistan and provide an explanation.

I am dismayed by the actions of our High Commissioner to the UK and have asked him to return to Pakistan and provide an explanation for his behaviour at the IPPA awards held in London.

Pakistan Foreign Office also issued a statement, saying that Oureshi has asked the High Commissioner to "explain himself or provide an explanation for such an indecent behaviour".:rofl::rofl:

They have collapsed many times but have been resuscitated by foreign powers.

What we see as Pakistan today is nothing but a rescued injured entity that is sustained by vested interests.

The fight must be fought intelligently and with earnest of the details and calculating the factors that may come out to help them.

I next possible resuscitator is Russia and we must plan ahead to check or counter it.

People may find it as sloganeering or disjointed or digressing assertion but innovation lead development is the only way to address all these strategic and military challenges.
