Defence Cooperation Between India and Japan

Defence Minister of Japan Mr Gen Nakatani visited India on 14th July, 2016. Bilateral discussions covered a range a defence related issues, focussing on measures to take forward the defence partnership between the two countries.

No Agreements were signed between the two countries during the visit. However, an Agreement concerning Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology was signed with Japan on 12 December 2015.

A Joint Working Group on Defence Equipment and Technology (JWG-DETC) between Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA), Ministry of Defence (MoD), Japan and the Department of Defence Production, MoD, India handles issues related to defence productions and technologies. Both sides are working towards identifying the areas of cooperation. The first meeting of JWG-DETC was held in Japan in March, 2015. The second meeting is scheduled to be held in India in August, 2016.

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri Sudheer Gupta and others in Lok Sabha today.

soryu class submarines are very Good , it was offered to Australia but they choose french DCNS’ Shortfin Barracuda submarines ........................12 submarines worth 50 billion $ .

DCNS’ Shortfin Barracuda is upgraded version of Scorpène-class submarine ( Indian project 75i Kalvari-class submarine ) , we have TOT of Scorpène-class submarines and it is built in Indian shipyards .& DRDO has developed AIP systems .
Japan was also unwilling to commit to agreeing to build the submarines in India (and we know India's shipbuilding industry needs just this sort of boost).
Japan neither accepted nor rejected Indian proposal .
Germany is offering TKMS Type 214 submarines to India on government-to- government contract .

Type -10 tanks are light-weight , if they are ready to share its technology & willing to commit to agreeing to build the Tanks in India then it will be a Good offer .................but they rejected such requests from turkey due to restrictions .
at present there are no such restrictions on Japan .

First of all prove it please.

Until Japan comes out of its pacifist attitude working with Japan in defense is not a good idea...

Japan or in that matter any other countries will not share the technology with India...

Indians can not Use Russian torpedoes on french Scorpène-class submarines because they are not compatible but we can use torpedoes developed by DRDO , Israel other Nato countries .

everybody can provide Key technologies if there are sufficient political , diplomatic & economic reasons .
every defence deal is different with deferent level of technology transfer & different terms and conditions .
there are different conditions for Israel & turkey .
israel can repair or modify it's F-35 but turkey dont have such privillege .
if Indians could not utilize opportunity then it is our fault .

Indians developed dhanush howitzer with Increased range from the TOT of bofors .

There are cases where countries like most powerful NATO allies refused tot to US itself.

Now don't ask for links. I won't be able to provide it.

But it is fact.
