Don't be so pugnacious,we are only trying to defend the territorial integrity and protect our growing global interests,we are either seeking to be a world-cop or superpower, besides china is only big country that don't have a AC, it's our automatic right to build one or three
and its our born right to deny any country the indian ocean,if u stay with all urs carrier in east asia ,there will be no prob, but if u step in indian ocean, then clash of interest is inevitable.

What democracy? Bigger fools choosing lesser ones?

What human rights? the right to live in utter poverty?

What freedom of speech and press? the freedom to phone-hack and speak without being held responsible for what you say?

lol!

Why are we hooting fiercely on the so called MEGA topic. Chill out guys. Even if China wanted 3 AC, it would not be possible to complete the project in this decade. Reason- As clarified that Varyag wouldnt be an operational AC and R&D of an AC takes minimum of 4 years from blueprints to sea trials and induction(if i`m not wrong).
By that India would also be having around 3 AC(excluding the current one, considering it to be retired). And on that too China will be focusing on its Southern and Eastern neighbors. As they should not try to step into IOR, or else it could be a disaster for the brand new Chinese DADDY.
You spoke too fast.

There are still 9 and half years remaining in this decade. Let's just wait and see what China will accomplish before 2020.

Are you talking of China? Because all this happens more so in China, "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."

The (Chinese) mythical Dragon has 9 sons:

(1) 囚牛(Qiuniu)
(2) 睚眦(Yázì)
(3) 嘲风(Cháofēng)
(4) 蒲牢(Púláo)
(5) 狻猊(Suān'ní)
(6) 赑屃(Bìxì)
(7) 狴犴(Bì'àn)
(8) 负屃(Fùxì)
(9) 螭吻(Chīwěn)

It is only fitting that China should and will possess at least 9 carriers, all of which should be named after the dragons.

And should the number exceed 9, one can always add 螭(Chī)、麒麟(Qilin)、朝天吼(犼,Chaotianhou)、貔貅(Pixiu)、饕餮(tāo tiè)、趴蝮(Pafu), making 15 in total。

Most indians are very optimistic about their carrier program, but ground reality is very different. It takes India 12 years to complete a medium sized warship, go figure how long it would really take for India to build a carrier which is about 1 magnitude more complex than a destroyer or a frigate. Understood that someone just announced that if ALL(a huge if) goes well the INS Vikrant would be launched by years end, but how many similar promises went uncashed in the past? When in 2001 after years of delay India finally launched the first GSLV, the talk was that India was expected to a launch version with indigenous upper-stage the next year. Now a decade on, India still has not managed to accomplish this.

Some dates for you to digest:
INS Dehli, laid down 14 November 1987, launched 01 February 1991, commissioned 15 November 1997
INS Shivalik, laid down 11 July 2001, launched 18 April 2003, commissioned 29 April 2010
INS Kolkata, laid down 27 September 2003, launched 30 March 2006, commissioned was May 2012 now 2015

now the first indigenous carrier
INS Vikrant, laid down 28 Feb 2009, launched Dec 2011? sea trial 2013? commissioned 2014? in total 5 years?

Realistically this ship won't sail with the indian navy before 2020, that too would represent an precendented feat for india's ship building industry. Take a look at the french carrier Charles de Gaulle a ship that is similar in size to Vikrant:

laid down 14 April 1989, launched 7 May 1994, commissioned 18 May 2001

Wrong!

I have India in mind when speaking those words.

India is ruled by an elite few. The so-called election is just a means to an end by the few. India is more corrupt than China. So much for democracy.

The majority of Indians live in poverty, if not abject poverty.

As for freedom of speech and press. The press is highly biased, lies all the time, and only serve the few. Speech? What speech? What's Indian's offical language?

Calm down. What happened?

India is not ruled by some elite few. Anybody really popular among the masses can become a lawmaker after winning elections. And there are scores of examples who have risen from humble backgrounds.
This is not China where CCP membership and heirarchy runs in the family. Atleast in India dynastic politicians can be voted out of power, helpless Chinese have no such option.

I think some people prefer to remain slaves of CCP for generations. I hope they remain slaves for generations to come.

There are some who are over optimistic and then there are those who are too pessimistic. Your views in this post are the second kind. 2020??? Why don't you just say 2030??

china was the first country in asia to try democracy, and it was a failed experience, democracy didn't raise the country out of poverty, foreign intervention, warlord wars

Ofcourse Democracy would fail when people and leaders truly believe " Political power grows out of the barrel of a Gun"

if past is any indicator for the foreseable future, 2025(conservative) or even 2030(pessimistic) is about right, that would amount to a typical indian speed. If India manages to induct this ship by 2020(cautiaously optimistic), that would indeed be tremendous because it would mean that india has caught with international norm set by advanced shipbuilding nations like Japan, France or UK.

And how did we gain independence? with Guns?
In 1857 we used guns, not in 1947.

in 1857 GB had more guns and could easily project them anywhere in the world, in 1947 they lost the power to maintain a military rule on another great civilization, thats the main difference. Same happened to China, we only gained back leased territories after world war 2.
