because it is dummy right now, it is just to see if the radar has any effect on aerodynamics of aircraft in real flight. After all the tests are complete, Plane will be flown to India and the dummy would be replaced with real thing and all the electronics inside the plane will be installed, then testing of radar would take place. BTW a friend who has seen the radar few years back, was very happy with it.

this is not the case.

i cannot find the exact link but this is i found and their is specific reason for this

The EMB-145 basic aircraft will be modified at the works of M/s Embraer, Brazil, to incorporate the necessary structural modifications to receive the Indian AAAU as well as other mission systems. Flight-testing of the modified EMB-145 with replicated dummy AAAU to simulate the actual aerodynamics and simulated loading of the cabin will be carried out by M/s Embraer to ensure airworthiness of the air vehicle.

why this was done, because DRDO has learn hard lesson DRDO HS-748 Avro was cashed


When a HS-748 Avro aircraft crashed into the dense forests near Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu on January 11th 1999, it not only killed eight people but also caused a severe setback to one of India's most ambitious defence research projects. The Avro, which belonged to the Defence Research and Development Organisation's(DRDO's) Centre for Airborne Systems(CABS), was a test platform for developing a sophisticated indigenous Airborne Early Warning(AEW) system--India's answer to the AWACS(Airborne Warning and Control System) developed by the US.

At last our indigenous AWACS is ready........:thumb:
you are too early to say that!!!! only the a/c has undergone first flight probably with a dummy Antenna simulating the weight and other side loads. once the a/c arrives in India it may be fitted with all that Radar gear!!! even after fitting the AESA elements ,lot of flight testing needs to be done to validate signal processing algos,multi targeting capabilities,ability to reject clutter etc..... very complex task is still pending probably, as the Radar is not flight tested on any other platform.

Almost it is..

Also not a coincident IAF already use such Aircraft for VIP purpose, Engines are same and most hardware..



At least 3-6 of these jets are active in IAF now, More of these platform will ensure smooth logistics..

We get the aircraft in mid 2012. Then we integrate the AESA and subsystems. Then there will be 1 year and few months of flight tests, that's 2015. Then there will be acceptance trials by IAF. So, induction will be between 2015-16. Then it will take a few months for it to be integrated with the network along with training of new crew.
