Trudeau accuses Indian government of involvement in killing of Canadian Sikh leader

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed in B.C. in June

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is accusing the government of India of being behind a fatal shooting on Canadian soil.

Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar was brazenly shot dead outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, B.C. on June 18.

Nijjar, a supporter of a Sikh homeland in the form of an independent Khalistani state, had been branded by the Indian government as a "terrorist" and accused of leading a militant separatist group — something his supporters have denied.

Now, Trudeau said, Canada's national security apparatus has reason to believe that "agents of the Indian government" carried out the killing of this Canadian citizen, who also served as the president of Surrey's Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara.

"Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the Government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar," Trudeau said Monday.

"Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty. It is contrary to the fundamental rules by which free, open, and democratic societies conduct themselves," Trudeau said.

"As you would expect, we have been working closely and coordinating with our allies on this very serious matter."

Trudeau urged the Indian government to participate in the ongoing investigation and "cooperate with Canada to get to the bottom of this matter."
He said some Indo-Canadians are feeling "angry" and "perhaps frightened right now."
"Let us not allow this to change us," he said.

Trudeau is right now facing a lot of backlash. He is facing a certain defeat in election. He is being ridiculed for being well, Trudeau. Modi also snubbed him hard. This move looks like one to gain sympathy.

Canada expels Indian diplomat over slaying of Sikh leader

"Allegations that a representative of a foreign govt may have been involved in murder of a Canadian citizen... are totally unacceptable," FM Melanie Joly said.

Canada on Monday expelled an Indian diplomat believed to have a credible link to the murder of a Sikh leader in western Canada last June, Canada's foreign minister said.

"Allegations that a representative of a foreign government may have been involved in the murder of a Canadian citizen here in Canada, on Canadian soil... are totally unacceptable," Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said.

"Therefore, today we have expelled a senior Indian diplomat from Canada," she added without naming the diplomat.

India needs to expel charge 10 Canadian diplomats of breaking the rules and launch a case against the Turdeau government of hindophobia and condoning terrorists acts against the peaceful citizens of India.
A better idea will be to break all diplomatic relationships with Canada.

Call the mission back and expell entire Canadian mission from India for a year or more, till Trudeau is in power.

If anything, this adds more brownie points to Modi in front of Indian public. It also will spread fear among the usual suspects. Will they feel safe sitting abroad and causing mischief in India? Modi could not have asked for better situation. Should double down and cause a complete diplomatic shutdown from Canada.

if rock bottom is the direction this diplomatic relation is going, might as well let it. GoI/MEA also needs practice in dealing these kinds of situations.
More than anything else, Trudeau is facing a tough election ahead. His opponents will use any action by Indian government to the full extent. Biggest snub will be restoration of relations AFTER someone else comes in Trudeau's place and the removed diplomat is restored. LOL!

I really hope so . Remember that explosion in a Punjab court .. that too was traced to kanneda.
India needs to learn to raise a big stink publicly when a country like Canada lets its soil used by terrorists. We missed an opportunity let then world know our concerns. The usually hush-hush behind the scene diplomacy does not work with people like Trudeau.

Yeah real good practice on an irrelevant commodity exporter whose greatest achievement is being Americas hat .
Perfect training material.
Now we will see, who plays what games.

- pakis will try add more fuel to the fire
- canada visa mafia will add more visas using this
- murican east coast media mafia will write 100 opeds
- BBC will release a documentary

who in India hypes this up in favour of canada remains to be seen.
