The following will help.

We are not a democratic forum and we are pro-Republic of India and anti-any "ism" opposed to the Republic of India.
http://defenceforumindia.com/rules/4-general-rules.html
I understand that but i am just suggesting an newer idea. There is nothing wrong in trying out new ideas, because if not for democracy your DFI wont exist..Period.

Electing mods would give members themselves an incentive to maintain dignity if they choose to contest themselves. Just ideas for consideration.

Look where Democracy has got our country to. Elected leaders watching porn. Do you want our porn addicts as our mods?
Do you rather live under Saddam Hussain who would have your family raped than some loser watching porn in the assembly, considering that is brought out to the publics knowledge only because of democracy?

I dont even have an opinion on this one man, but Saddam is not a fair comparison. I think our mods have been fair to everyone. I myself have been on the receiving end at times but wtf, they have a tough job. Overall they have kept DFI pretty clean and yet have tried to maintain freedom of speech and thought.

One more thing, Iraq under Saddam was the most prosperous Gulf state before the war with Iran and then later the gulf wars. Only the Kurds sufferred because they kept asking for a separate state. Regular Iraqis had an awesome life.

Democracy NOW!

You guys could have done a members vote for Mod. Let us have a 6month period of service for every mod and non-performing mods who are not active anymore can lose their title or bad mods get elected out every 6months to be replaced by new mods.

This way the quality of modship and posters to will improve. Any Admins or Mods man enough to take this challenge or are you all become to attached to your privileges that you wont allow change in the system?
I don't think you are being fair.

There is a lot of democracy out here.

Or else would a Mod take time out to give such long and copious explanation to a poster who complains in Suggestion and Feedback? Transparency is our credo.

Few other Forums would even put out an explanation for all to see. It would have merely been the Queen of Hearts favourite term!

It may surprise you, even very minor issues are not settled by one Mod. It is settle by the Team of Mod on majority vote! That is Democracy as Democracy can get!

Quality of Moderation cannot improve by voting. Even in our 60+ democracy, the politicians and Ministers have been a mixed bag. So votes are not the answer.

On the issue of your challenge. The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Given your very post, we of the Mod Team, stand resolute to serve the interest of the Forum inspite of the challenges and controversies thrown up by verities of existence.

I think that is Man enough!

Now let us welcome those who shall wear the crown of thorns like Jesus!

Uneasy lies the head at wears the crown.

And uneasier does it get, when he realises he is wearing at the crown with his onerous duties!

As an aside:

The Crown of Thorns is an Instrument of the Passion, objects associated with Jesus' Passion in Christian symbolism and art.

They are seen as arms in the sense of heraldry.

John the Evangelist describes it thus (KJV, ch. 19):

"Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him. And the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, And said,"Hail, King of the Jews!" and they smote him with their hands. Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!"

How many mods have been elected? I think we are confusing Democracy with freedom of speech here.

I appreciate transparency is your credo but there are plenty of forums these days on the same issue and do the same stuff more or less. I dont want to get into the argument on demerits of DFI that is not my intention but as an active member i like to see some changes, if you like to look into them then i appreciate it.

Few other Forums would even put out an explanation for all to see. It would have merely been the Queen of Hearts favourite term!
I agree but that is why i am merely posting my opinion on bettering the system, this does not mean we throw out all the old mods i am just saying any new mods who come in can be chosen by the members. Change is the only constant.

That sounds more like China and the single party system and the Oligarchy.

Quality of Moderation cannot improve by voting. Even in our 60+ democracy, the politicians and Ministers have been a mixed bag. So votes are not the answer.

That is something we dont know, we have not experiment on it to give any authoritative opinion. What happens in India is because people are bribed and cheated into voting for certain parties. This does not need to be the case with DFI, let us see how it functions among the educated or highly opinionated who visit DFI and blame the poor for the bad democracy in India.

If that does not work let the Guardians of DFI end voteing once in for all.

No lies...Understand there are people who dont like your POV and if they are made mods you will be the first one to be axed. Be more self critcial before you call for hell to rain down on others, because there is a some one out there who thinks you are a huge taboo.
Sorry to chip in, when this thread is merely to welcome the new ones.

But then as a Mentor, I find it necessary to correct some misconceptions.

Mods cannot allow their own likes and dislikes to prevail.

There are Guidelines that they have to follow.

And then there is the Mod Team to comment and even overturn the decision if any fault is observed, even for minor technicalities.

The Moderation is as Democratic, as fair and just as it can get and thus a Mod has to tread softly and tread with care.

No 'Off with your Head' is possible!

Yesterday Sparks head was off for just a silly joke, you being a senior should have warned him. That was funny as hell though! :D

No one is infallible i understand even if Mods do get frustrated at times but i hope it is taken well meaningly.

Little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

If only you knew what you did to him and his actions thereafter!

Your lack of knowledge and assumptions are misleading others.

Please refrain for spreading disinformation!

It is for this aspect, I am commenting!

I did not cross post someone else comment to another issue. He did use my comments on Mallu lungie issue, it was a harmless joke that never promoted hate, violence or anger. If those are not pardonable then i dont know what is.

You have no idea of how moderation works. What you are suggesting will make DFI a circus. You know what, after so many years we are still kept on our toes by issues that crop up every other day. We keep learning from that so as to be better. A rotating mod policy will as per your suggestion will make things incoherent and drive everyone nuts and take the forum to dumps.

Either way it is an extremely fair comparison on what democracy means on a personal level. Then your other choice is Kim jong il of north korea.

Iraq had no industries all it did was sell oil and make money, if he was not able to give a great life style even when all they have to do is drill oil and sell at extortionist levels of profit. Then that is a failure.

Not if it is done in the right way and as long as being afraid ending up in the dumps then there can be no change possible. On what account was Spark banned yesterday?

1) we don't owe an explanation for his banning.
2) I didn't ban him but a competent person did and has reasons for it.
3) banning is the last resort that we undertake which causes more heartburn to staff than anyone else as it takes us a long time to build membership.
4) there are temp bans issued for members to cool down. This is done after repeated requests to cool down does not work.

1) Ok, fair enough thats your wish if you like to conduct it that way. I have no problems i was only suggesting.
2)Competence does not come with age or rank, it needs to be constantly scrutinized.
3) All he did was make one silly joke not a hate speech or call for violence or destruction of anyone. He cross posted a comment that was funny.\
4)That is ok as long as the member is not a regular one who gives a lot of time toe DFI and gets hurt when he thrown out.
