South Korea's fertility rate falls to lowest in the world
By Reuters Staff
1 MIN READ

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea’s fertility rate fell to the lowest in the world last year, data showed on Wednesday, as uncertainty over the coronavirus discouraged couples from marrying and having children.
The number of expected babies per South Korean woman fell to 0.84 in 2020, dropping further from the country’s previous record low of 0.92 a year earlier, the official annual reading from the Statistics Korea showed.
That is the lowest among over 180 member countries of the World Bank, and far below 1.73 in the United States and 1.42 in Japan.
The grim milestone comes after the population fell for the first time ever last year.
Asia’s fourth-largest economy is the fastest aging country in the OECD. The government has failed to reverse the falling birth rate despite spending billions of dollars each year on childcare subsidies and maternity leave support.
The nation’s capital Seoul logged the lowest birth rate of 0.64.

Perhaps we can help them to increase the Fertility rate :megusta:

Nope as per UN projections India will reach replacement level only in 2026.
1 decade back India was supposed to cross China by as early as 2023. but the Population growth has ectaully slowed down and expected time shifted by 2-4 yrs to 2026-27.
By time 2025 arrives it may slip on to even around 2029-30 as china has lifted 1 child policy and already many families started having 2-3 kids there too.

There are good business relations between India and SK. Lot of South Koreans travel to Indian regularly for business.
Even we have one customer which is a joint venture between Indian and South Korean companies and the South Korean manager regularly comes to our company to buy some material.

So you will be welcomed there. Go on and help them increase their population. DFI ka naam girne mat dena.

not for long!
Current generation already back to having 2 kids at most.
Next gen will be focusing of atmost 1 kid or if possible having pet instead!
Even educated Momins are having ~1-3 kids max.

Here is the data from 2019 world population prospects. As you can see, India's population projections have only slowed down and declined successively from 2015 and 2017 and may be even slower for 2021.
Population projection for 2100 is 1.52 billion = 2030's 1.5 billion. Decline initiates from 2059. It may even go earlier than 2050 if trends continue like that.

SK did NOT have the holistic growth like Japan and China.
They kind of became wealthy overnight and all generations of people did not enjoy the growth equally.

The elder generation is bitter as they lived in decades of authoritarian govt. Even NK was more open than SK till 1980s.

Now the working culture in SK is much more extreme then Japan and China. The work class heirarchy is present in all, Japan , China and SK but it is in extreme condition in SK.

The urban cities are all developed but moving out of main city area and you can see the disparity in the society.
Japan has enjoyed growth and success all the way from end 1950s till now and most section of society are affected well by growth and wealth.

Most social indicators put SK worse than Japan now.

The reason why people aren't having kids is all in the head.
But some policy can be implemented to make an impact.

1)9 months maternity leave for expecting mother.
2)short working hours no more than 9.
3)Free education for children till class 10.
4) Reduced taxes on childcare products and Medical Checkup
5) Tax breaks for People having 2 or more Children.
6) A PM awas Yojana like scheme for people having 2 kids, i.e low interest loans for couples.

I think participation of women in the work force has an impact on fertility rate.
It would be not politically correct to say that only men should do jobs but one person must be present full time for the children either a man or woman.

This is how much a person taking care of kids actually worth.

Japan has straight 33% tax regime. Quite heavy taxes.

Do u think cutting taxes for couples having 2 kids is a good idea. i.e, 1 Kid 33%, 2 kids 27%, 3 kids 20%

Japan is giving relaxation to couples having more than 1 kids since a decade now.

Things are improving but bit slow! SK is much worse and started relaxations much late.

I think inflation rate is the key factor that has thrown the world to the dogs.
In the 1960s a typical American middle class family could have three kids, a housewife, a car and house on loan on the salary of just the husband alone.

We have to high a population in this world. The earth could sustain 3 to 4 billion population with ease but 7 billion is too much.

Japanese, Chinese and Korean society does not allow large scale Immigration! they are over 95% homogenous.
They allow PR for skilled workers but you cant ever be a Chinese, Korean or Japanese!

Yes, in USA it is possible because no one in USA is American, all are foreign origin.
