Should India buy Brazilian Super Tucano light attack trainer??

Hey Guys.....for couple of months I been thinking about Super Tucan light attack trainer for some reason:
1. It is cheap in cost.
2. Very fine n attractive design.
3. It can be used as attack and armed reconnaissance aircraft.
4. It can be very helpful in Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh area for reconnaissance.
5. It can intercept and destroy low performance aircraft.
6. It can be used as counter insurgency operations.
7. It has inraeli avionics and weapons.
8. It has very attractive weapon package.
9. Last but not least....USA also leased a Super Tucano for evaluation.

What are your thoughts???...guys.....

the same thing if not better can be done by our hjt-36's i am sure but alas they are in development.

and palash why do you think the modern indian air force needs a propeller driven trainer instead of a jet one?

Shiv,
Prop driven aircrafts have their own advantages. They are easy to maintain and can have a longer endurance time. They can be slow and hence will have more loitering capability. They can take off and land nearly anywhere and everywhere. Minimal training is required. better handling. Good for counter insurgency. And hey the first kill in Vietnam was made by Skyhawk not an F4 phantom.

johnee we put the Glass Cockpit of the Super Tucano in to the LAC or the HJT -36 if we want to and besides we can Buy this for our Stage I traning of our Flight cedets

They are said to be good for CAS as they are slow enough to accurately hit insurgents even if they are very close to friendly troops.
Also as the OP said, cheap and easy to maintain with extended loitering capability. Just the thing for supporting our soldiers when they are out patrolling in the mountains and naxalite infested jungle areas.

I remember a comment by OOE that western recon patrols carried their firepower in their radios but indian patrols carried it on their backs. Maybe such cheap CAS options are what we need to change this.

You want us to become like China?!!!

because we don't usually reverse-engineer everything we get our hands on, we are offered many kinds of latest technology by the original companies. When china gets their Su-33 deal scrapped, India hardly had had to face such action. Also, reverse-engineering = copying doesn't open the way of innovation and invention. A copy-specialist will always look for easiest way to get a tech. - by copying; but his effort in building will be severely hampered for the same reason too.

whatever the validity of the above observations,there is a reason that the race upgraded to jet powered engines.if you guys want cas then the avenger is the plane for you not this taco with cheese.

i think its a waste buying it because we already have what could be the best trainer in the world, the LCA mk-1 is ideal as a supersonic fighter trainer, we should simply order about 60 or so for IAF's fighter pilot's last leg of training, it can fire Russian weapons, Indian weapons and French weapons, bombs, missiles etc. which is ideal for our pilots. Besides the LCA mk-1 can still perform better than the Mirage. Its a waste going for a new light trainer which will only increase the complexity of operating another type. With large scale production of LCA mk-1 we can also sell it as a supersonic trainer to the rest of the world, it would have no comparison.

But LCA cant be deployed in large number and its life cycle cost is more than Super Tucano....
Can you expect LCA can be deployed for anti-insurgency operation??? never...
But super tucano can do that very well for its low speed and low operating cost....
If you consider the cost of LCA and Super Tucano - 25 Mil $ and 9 mil $.

John.....Super tucano is in its class. You cant just compare it with others. Yes, we need MQ-9 Reaper and Fire scout helicopter. But you cant get the advantages of super tucano. Its main advantages lies in its avionics, weapons and its super pilot visibility. No other COIN aircraft can provide as much as super tucano ca...:2guns: This is why USA also considering it for use in insurgency operations.
