How does the training and length of time exist for a civilian to become an Indian Army soldier?
The training period, which lasts 31 weeks, is divided into two phases. This includes the first 10 weeks of basic military training and the next 21 weeks of advanced military training. The training will focus on physical fitness, firing and handling various weapons, information technology and the English language. - this method is a new one .
Older and still practiced method is
( How long is Jawan training in the Indian Army?

Every soldier (or officer) who joins Indian army have to undergo a BASIC TRAINING. This takes place at their respective Regimental Centers. And on completion of it some specialization training (weapons, drill, navigation, communication, field engineering, medical, administration, computers etc. as per branch).

The duration of basic training depends on the type of entry. Certain basic entries and their basic training duration is:

General duty Jawan: 9 months
Technical soldiers: 5 months
Training in the Indian Army is their respective Command’s responsibility.

After completion of this basic training, technical soldier undergo further training and specialization in their respective field. During the training period, they get paid i.e they get their salary.

During service, they are also required to undergo certain courses as part of training.)
