That is including 32 more LR-SAMs. Currently there are only Barak-1 CIWS SAMs installed, AFAIK. When LR-SAM is delivered, 32 of those would be added in the place earmarked for it behind the superstructure, during 1st refit, to make it a total of 64.

Wasnt Kolkata Class supposed to have 64 SAMs?

They will or might. Right now there are no immidiate plans. Type 45 does not have Torpedo tubes either.
Their are immediate plans. Harpoons are being installed. Their is a provision to add 4 324 mm torpedo tubes if required by the RN. The strike VLS upgrade will have to wait till 2015 for obvious reasons

Their are no plans of using Barak-1 on Kolkata class destroyers. IMO these VLS are for LRSAM.

Huh? Can you substantiate with reference?

So your logic is that for the next 2-3 yrs INS Kolkata would sail with empty SAM VLS, till the time LR-SAM is operationally inducted?

Those 4 blocks of 2X4(or may be 2X8 according to some) SAM VLS are for Barak-8.
There are probably no Barak-1 on P-15A DDGs though there are many reference to it on internet including SIPRI, just the 4 AK-630 for CIWS role.
The reason is where there is Barak-1 installed there is also Barak Director Radar or EL/M-2221 STGR, but no such radar is visible on any of Kolkata's pic released till now.

EL/M-2221 STGR

EL/M-2221 STGR on Delhi class DDG.

Hmmm... but things are just not adding up!

So what is in the VLS now? Empty for the next 2 yrs?

Can't MF-STAR guide Barak-1?

There was an article few months ago which said IN does not want point defence SAMs any more, only Fleet defence SAMs.

Then again, there is an ongoing RFP for 25 SAM+CIWS system.

Is IN confused? Or only confusing us on purpose?

Those new orders probably for smaller ships.. Like the new class of 16 ASW ships and kamorta class etc..

And what about the main gun.. A destroyer class of the size is gonna settle with a 76mm gun ??
Any info on whether it will be changed during the refits ??

Their was no mention of Barak-1 as part of weapons package by MDL officials during Defense Expo 14.

LRSAM can outdo barak-1 in all parameters, so doesn't makes sense to put barak-1 on DDG 63.

BTW LRSAM will be available by next year.

MF-STAR can only guide SARH or ARH missiles. Barak-1 uses CLOS guidance.

LRSAM can perform roles of both Point Defense SAM and Area defense SAM.

Only if Finmeccanica is not banned and we successfully get the 127/64 LW.

Not really sure abt it, but here's what Prasoon Sengupta has to say.

The P-15A DDG does have only 32 VLS cells for the Barak-2 LR-SAM—twin eight-cell mounts fore & another identical set aft. BUT, there are another 32 cannister-encased missiles as RELOADS kept internally. 64 Barak-2 LR-SAMs on-board. Cannister-encased vertically-launched missiles held internally in storage can easily be brought to ready-to-fire position once the empty cannisters are removed while at-sea. For this, the heavy fleet replenishment vessels (which also serve as refuelling tankers) have purpose-built on-board cranes to assist such reloadings. On board aircraft carriers like INS Vikramaditya & IAC-1, such cranes are available as well. Fleet replenishment vessels will always accompany any IN battle group.
