I think you're wrong on this.
India don't need a ABM Destroyer like Kongo and Atago because we share land border with both of our adversaries.
Hmm, didn't know about Kongo class. Ok but Kolkata will never have such capabilities. We will need to develop a separate missile system for this job.

All SAMs have capability to intercept missiles. But ABM or BMD is used against ballistic missiles which are always fired at large stationary targets like cities. Not ships. No ships are used for ABM purposes.
In Europe, AAW destroyers are used as part of the ALTBMD. Aster 30 Block 2 is wide area defence capable against 3000 km-range ballistic missiles.

The two adversaries that India have long land boundary with India, so India is concentrating on land based BMD.

India has no plans to provide ship based BMD to cover distant lands. So, ship based BMD is not a priority now.

Though in future AAD and PAD or it's later variants ( more likely ) may see service with larger naval ships. But now there is no such plans.

Off topic: don't know how capable this is, but it costs $3.45 per unit.

And it's engines/propulsions are made by the BAE Systems. Expensive ship, but good for the UK defence company, though.

And over $12bn for program cost for 3x ships. That's an impressive way to waste the tax payers' money. :hail:

I was thinking the same! :smokin:

Seriously, you can get so many decent ships/things with that (bn) cost. For example, around 70x Pak Fa aircraft. Just saying...

Gandhi Class :lawl:

btw @ Defon_1 Kolkata Class should not have Barak 1 installed on it as discussed by other members before in this thread, or other wise they have tested the CG Barak-1s with MF-STAR radar.

so losing even one gonna cost you tremendous perhaps you shouldn't use it because losing some of the 5th generation stealth pakfa's to kill one of these not a bad deal as pakfa's cost much less than it so india could spare some, just saying.:laugh::lol:

Indian media reported that India took 10 years to build a destroyer. Why is it being delayed even Israel/Ukraine/Russia etc are helping the project and providing their technology?
well only madamji could answer this as corrupt congress wants pakibeggars to have most of india if not all and not just kashmir.:laugh::lol:

And why is India building only 3x of them, whereas China is building like 30x at the same time? The gap is going to be very huge unless India starts spending more on defence and building more ships.

If you are talking about Type-054A type frigates they have no endurance t go beyond their shores. Though I agree IN needs to increase orders for P-28A and P-17a.
