Kapil Dev wants Sachin Tendulkar to retire immediately

NEW DELHI: India's 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev feels that the time has run out for Sachin Tendulkar and the batting maestro should immediately retire from international cricket.

Kapil believes that Tendulkar, who has scored 68 runs in four innings in the ongoing tri-series in Australia, should have retired after the 2011 World Cup, which India won on home soil.

"From what we have seen in the last three months, he (Sachin) should have announced his retirement after the World Cup or even earlier. It's important to know that every cricketer has his time. Having served India for 22-23 years, there surely is no greater cricketer than him. But he should have announced his decision to retire from the shorter format soon after the World Cup," Kapil was quoted as saying by Aaj Tak.

"May be his time has come. Every player has his time. He is 39-40 years now. Age is not on his side as it was earlier."

Kapil did not mince his words and accused Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni of favouritism in the team. Kapil said he was bewildered at Dhoni's decision to not bowl Ravindra Jadeja in the crushing 110-runs defeat against Australia in Brisbane on Sunday.

"If you are an Indian captain, you cannot be partial. I was surprised when Rudra Pratap Singh was drafted into the Test side in England. One must find out why all rounder Jadeja was not used as a bowler even for a single over in the ODI against Australia at Brisbane. Dhoni is a mature player. I am perturbed when he picks a player as an all-rounder and doesn't make him bowl at all. If anyone makes such mistakes, he can't survive for long. If Dhoni makes such mistakes repeatedly, he will have to pay the price," Kapil added.

Kapil also said that it was time for veterans Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman to retire from Test cricket to give youngsters a chance to prove themselves in the international arena.

"I think Dravid and Laxman have played their last Test. They could be given one last Test for a respectable exit, but certainly not at the cost of compromising the team's interests.

"There is no denying that the likes of Rahul, Sachin and Laxman have served the nation like few other cricketers. But they are no longer young, and if Indian cricket does not move forward from the Big Three, it will risk falling a generation back and struggle like West Indies and Australian teams have done in the past," he said.

Should we not let poor Tendulkar plod all to greater records?

He said he is not playing for records and is only playing because he likes playing.

Since, he still likes playing, why is Kapil getting so hot under the collar and not wanting Sachin to enjoy what he enjoys - playing. Records are not that important and runs....well!

The Big Three are slow on the field and give away runs while fielding. Is that a good reason, they should be pensioned off?

What about the claim that Dhoni shows bias?

Is it curtains for Indian cricket?

India cricket is going down the drain. Not only Indian cricket, but Test Cricket as a whole. IPL and 20-20 Cricket, or perhaps the money that comes with it, has had a bad effect on many teams.

2011, 11 matches, 2 hundreds, 2 fifties, average 46.63.

The sarcasm was not subtle enough Ray. Sachin will make the critics eat their words ... again. He will go when he wants to.

When Dhoni hits a hundred against proper fast bowling in Aus/Eng, call him a batsman. He can wear a skirt until then.

What else does Kapil Dev wants? That Sourav Ganguly should clean his shoes?

Kapil is right, we can not allow sachin to play only he had records,if he not in form, not fit ,he should given rest if not resigned, same with shewag, what the use of shewag if he make 1 century in 20 games and average 20 in all games

Sachin and shewag both are the most unfit persons in Indian team...

again sachin is out at 22 today and shewag at 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000:wave::wave::wave:

India team is now a jokes. The young Monoj Tiwari scored a century in the last match he played but couldn't get a chance in so many matches in Australia. Raina and Jadeja keep on getting opportunity. I think Yousuif Pathan will be much better than Jadeja (he is peculiar allrounder who neither can bat nor bowling)

Sachin should retire and make way for youngsters!! No player is bigger than a team.

But he will be in team as long as he wishes, no selectors has balls to drop him!! Sorry state of Indian cricket.

I think if Tendulkar keeps playing and still cannot achieve his 100th 100, he will only embarrass himself!

He should leave gracefully while the country remains proud of him rather than forcing him to slink away disgraced!

He no longer has that spark in him!

Maybe he will get this 100th 100 in some home match, and then hopefully he will go.

He should not continue after that just for the money he will still rake in through commercials. He will further get disgraced when they stop asking him for commercials.

He has enough money as it is!

Go, Tendu, Go!

You still have our love for you!

I think it will be most embarrassing for Sachin if completes his 100, 100s against Bangladesh. Imagine you go one full calendar year without a century and then you reach the Holy Grail against BD....

Will Sachin be able to live upto this record-- it is for the Great Master to decide.

I don't like Bal Thakeray, but then he might be right that Sachin is only interested in money.

100th 100 and he is saleable for commercials with his squeaky voice!

People like Kapil Dev are just jealous that Sachin has money & records that nobody else can match on the face of this earth.

Maybe Kapil Dev will require half dozen lifetimes to come any close to Sachin's achievements.

The best part is that Sachin flaunts no big mouth to speak shyt about anyone who offend him. He always answered his critics with his performance.

Let us not get into the records of Sachin and other activities.

Unfortunately for him if this continues then History will always remember him for the wrong reasons.

He has done enough to the sport called Cricket in last 20yrs.

It doesn't really matter if he retire, continue in team, plays well or worst.

He will be always relevant to cricket for the decades to come. People in sports find it hard to swallow.

History is always very unkind. Sunil Gavaskar was another great but he is now remembered for his slowest 36 runs in 60 over one day match and the politics he played with Kapil Dev.

Tell me which organisation will carry on with an employee who has not performed for over a year. They will give him one chance for his past performance but his longevity in the organisation cannot be at the sake of old records.

Exactly, its the question of what organization wants and not the whims of Kapil Dev. No one cares what he wants, he is no authority. He was not even competent enough to match Sachin.

The Dhoni worshipers are out in full force again. The recent India Australia test series.

Kohli - 300 runs @ 37.5
Sachin - 287 runs@ 35.9
Ashwin 163 runs @ 32.6
Sehwag 198 runs @24.8
Dravid 194 runs @ 24.3
Gambhir 181 runs @ 22.6
Dhoni 102 runs @ 20.4

The keyboard cricket experts must give it a rest. If someone has to be kicked out of the team it should be Dhoni first. He is an incompetent batsman against good bowling. there are at least 5 better wicketkeeper batsmen in the country. He is not the leader that everyone claims he is, on the field he is a defensive muppet who has no clue how to earn a wicket, off the field he is hardly at harmony with other players as seen from the recent squabbles.

As for Kapil, the less said the better.
