I think china has sold this a/c to do business as well as cooperation with pakistan and as well as other countries who are and will be using chinese weapons like bangladesh, srilanka, myanmar, african countries...Basically pakistan is buying this to counter our LCA! Though initial protos of "Thunder the bunder" is equipped with chinese multi mode radar KLJ series10 , pakistan is looking towards GRIFO series Radars from (GA/slelex) Italy,Thales RC-400 and may be chinese-Russian AESA developed for J-10! So LCA guys buck up!

does this mean Pakistan is not getting the best China can offer???
Do you really think that the JF-17 is the best China can offer? Currently, the J-10 is, and the PLAAF is concentrated on beefing up its own ranks of the figther and upgrading it to J-10B standards first. Then, they'll offer it to the Pakistanis.

Pakistan hands over American stuff to china for reverse engineering and chinese stuff to America for threat asessment and to unwind chinese miltech capabilities. So definetely china is wary of pakistan's american connection! so china may not give its latest goodies to pakistan!

Well, China plans to sell the FC-20 (J-10B) to Pakistan eventually.

According to sources, they should've had the capability to build the JF-17 from start to finish by 2008 already entirely within Pakistan. With or without Chinese engineering specialists is what I don't know.

What if our Government didnt really want to stop the engines being delivered? Russia now holds a sway over the PAF once the JF17s come in numbers!!! Just think, in a time of need, Russia stopping supply of parts etc, and PAF is stranded! Just a thought, the Russians get the money, and then stop when India "Really" asks then to!!!

Is china interested in this plane? I mean, I wouldnt be if I had the J10, which is superior in all respects. I feel Pakistan should have gone for more J10s instead of F17s! But maybe the PAF might have some trick up its sleeve or maybe just short of cash, since China is financing the first 40 JF17s. Correct me If I am wrong.
well, pakistan is not that big a nation, and offensive strikes have not been a part of their AF (comparing the number of sorties in the different wars), they are more content with air denial, and as a light interceptor/ attack plane it is not so bad (depending on the network they are able to create in the coming decade).

PRC might be busy already creating a perfect copy of the engine, Russians are known to give design docs too easy and PRC is the expert in copying Old soviet tech.

I believe Engine in the JF-17 is a reason why IAF is demanding a more capable Tejas turbofan.

maybe to seal a big deal in the future the government may use this as one of the terms with Russia.

The JF-17 will only use imported Russian engines for the first batch of 50 afterward the chinese upgraded version should be ready (with more thrust). Theres been a recent deal signed with ukrain for a possible engine production plant which might be along the lines of the chinese WS-11 (copy of RD-93)

Koji what credible information do you have that the chinese wont go for the JF-17? So far the chinese have gained alot of knowledge from the project which was applied to the new J-10 upgrade this includes lerx, DSI, ecm, HMS and a whole lot more. Do you think the thousands of obsolete F-7's and F-8's will be replaced by 500 J-10s? The chinese have invested a huge ammount of expertise and money into the project to just drop it after its been successful

First 'made in Pakistan' fighter to roll out

First made in Pakistan fighter to roll out tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The first state of the art JF-17 Thunder multi-role fighter plane produced in Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra will roll out tomorrow.

This will kick start a new era in Pak-China relationship, and aviation industry, an official source told Geo News.

Both China and PAF attach a lot of importance to this project, which is materializing after hectic and laborious efforts spread over almost a decade, sources said.

The PAC has generated all the capability to produce the aircraft locally for its onward delivery to PAF besides materializing purchase orders from abroad.

The JF-17 Thunder a new generation, light-weight, all weather, day/night multi-role fighter aircraft with glass cockpit, hands-on-throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) controls and efficient man-machine interface will ensure a minimal pilot workload.

The maximum speed of Mach 1.6 and a high thrust-to-weight ratio will enable it to perform well in an air defence role.

An ability to carry short- as well as long-range air-to-air missiles lends the aircraft a first shot capability.

In the surface attack role, a variety of weapons - conventional as well as precision-guided, a sophisticated avionics suite along with accurate weapon delivery system, ensure higher mission success rate.

An effective ECM suite will greatly enhance survivability of the platform.

Its anticipated air-to-air refuelling capability will provide the JF-17 with more loiter time to safeguard the frontiers and the ability to deliver the required punch at distance.

It will replace the ageing fleets of A-5s, F-7Ps and the Mirages in the PAF inventory thus fulfilling a multi-role task.
