Older news - See more at: JR Tokai submits maglev planTOKYO, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Transport Minister Akihiro Ota said Friday the ministry has approved the plan submitted by Central Japan Railway Co. to build the Chuo Shinkansen, a maglev line which is designed to ultimately connect Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
Central Japan Railway Co., better known as JR Tokai, submitted a plan to the transport ministry on Tuesday on the Tokyo-Nagoya section of a high-speed magnetic levitation Shinkansen train line.
If approved by the ministry, JR Tokai will start construction of the line this autumn and launch operations on the section in 2027.
With a maximum speed of about 500 kph, the maglev train will link Tokyo to Nagoya in about 40 minutes.
