‘I was diagnosed on the day of Aditya L1 launch’: ISRO chief S Somnath shares experience of struggling with cancer

On the day of the launch of Aditya L1 mission, he got a scan done and was shocked to learn about a growth in his stomach. Further scans at a hospital in Chennai revealed he has a hereditary disease.

Many astrologers said the launch will not be successful for this reason or that reason. Launch was successful, but it seems they were correct after all. I am glad he has recovered

Yes OT, most of the south has lost it except a bit of kannada people....I find kannada's most calm and collected and got their bearings correct in general. Rest of the southern population is generally trash from their politicians to common people both educated and semi educated.....rural farming people are just ignorant and liquor driven. Compare that to north or west, even a cab driver in Indore or Uttarakhand is proud and open about being sanathani....every house has a saffron or bajarang bali flag, most in UP and MP sport tilak and choti and most in Rajasthan feed cow first before they eat. Truly disappointed as south has some of the richest art, temples, forts and traditions in entire hindu culture even compared to North in some aspects. Now just trash quality people electing absolute trash. They act the same overseas too...along with Punjabis and Bengalis, Delhites and Pundits making up the rest,,,,one more thing and you can move it to chit chat

TN and Telugu are most petty and narrow minded in my opinion....no consciousness in the majority of that population....kerala hindus are few and non confrontattional as they basically given up and ready to take up a cross or get their lund circumcised...
Don't give up hope yet. Annamalai is here for TN. He will have a ripple effect in Kerala and Telangana.

CSIR-NIIST And ISRO's VSSC Partner To Advance India's Space Programme
The agreement facilitates VSSC and CSIR-NIIST to identify the broad areas of collaboration, leading to delivery of advanced materials like engineered alloys, coatings and functional materials, which have critical applications in space programmes.

The CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST) has entered into a collaborative Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) to scale up research and delivery of strategically-advanced materials for India’s space programme. NIIST Director, Dr C Anandharamakrishnan and VSSC Director, Dr S Unnikrishnan Nair, exchanged the umbrella MoU in this regard recently.
The agreement facilitates VSSC and CSIR-NIIST to identify the broad areas of collaboration, leading to delivery of advanced materials like engineered alloys, coatings and functional materials, which have critical applications in space programmes.
CSIR-NIIST, a premier interdisciplinary research laboratory under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has a long record of pioneering work in research and development (R&D) in the area, which would benefit VSSC.
ISRO Chairman, Dr S Somanath, said they believe that manufacturing very high-end materials, electronics, and composites is necessary for India to become completely self-reliant in space research and technology.
"We have been concentrating on doing it within India all the time. For example, the materials we use for our rockets and satellites are reasonably high percentage indigenous," said Dr Somanath.
"But we are still lacking in high-grade composite and electronics manufacturing. We have to focus on it. If you have to really become a world leader, these areas are very critical. This is the only way to create a real revolution in this domain," he added.
On completion of Chandrayaan and Aditya-L1 mission, ISRO hopes to develop strategically-important advanced materials and indigenous technologies for a self-reliant India in its forthcoming space projects.
Dr C Anandharamakrishnan said the MoU assured strategic materials for ISRO projects, which are a high priority to NIIST and would deliver engineered components meeting ISRO specifications.
"The areas probably covered are near net shaping and advanced manufacturing, smart coating, H2 gas storage and materials for electronic and magnetic applications," said Dr C Anandharamakrishnan.
"NIIST has generated state-of-the-art facilities like pilot-scale squeeze casting plants and laser surface machining for undertaking high-quality research and product development. VSSC already supports NIIST for developing cutting-edge technologies like electronic substrates, iridium coatings, carbon fibre composites, and H2 storage vessels," he added.

RLV TD aka Pushpak LEX 02 mission tomorrow morning at 7 AM..... excited to see... :india:
Good news! This project seems to be plodding along, though. For the last launch in April 2023, a scaled down version of what was tested in May/2016 was flown, and that vehicle was itself a 1:5 version of the final intended rocket, which is supposed to be a space shuttle type vehicle. Let's hope for more speedy progress in the months and years to come.

1:5? Google sources show that actual size of final Pushpak will be only 1.6 times larger than the current TD version....:confused1:

Ok, here is a report on the launch from 2016, it says that the tested version is one sixth the size of the final intended space vehicle.

Very disappointing. After many statements about conducting unmanned test flights of Gaganyaan this year( July was the repeated scheduled date) , those tests are going to be pushed back to next year! What is going on with ISRO in 2024? It's been a lousy year so far for launches. There should have been at least 4 by now!

Let them take as much time as they want.
We are in no race with anyone and should take sufficient time to ensure everything goes on smooth and with any accidents later on.

This can go in the chit chat section. but. what's happened with ISRO's annual report for 2023-2024? It is mid-May, and they still haven't put it out! It once appeared as early as February, and never later than early April.

They have lots of achievements to talk about, not just the moon mission, for the calendar year 2023 or the fiscal year April 2023-March 2024.

There are always many nuggets in those reports, so it's something eagerly awaited!
