I think they mean IAC-2. The IAC 1 will come 3 years later, the IAC-2 will start only then and the third AC is already here in the name of Gorshkov. We have 3 areas of water interests: South, East &West. We get that covered. Why waste money on IAC-3? They could simply use that money to triple our Submarine fleet. We need at least 30 attack submarines diesel-electric and 5-8 nuclear SSBNs along with 3 carriers.. That is a force good enough to deter any enemy in the forseeable future.
When we have 3 ACs, maybe 1 will be docking on for maintenance while 2 continue to operate. The idea is to have 5 ACs so that we can guard all 3 fronts with 3 carriers on active-duty.

actually it is the carrier which is to built after Vikrant class aircraft carriers-iac 1,iac-2 -already projected and other is Gorshkov.
they are planing for nuclear aircraft carrier for future INS Vikramaditya life is 20 years -2011 to 2031 and iac-3 will come in to operation if projected after 2025 ... and indian is also looking for a britsh carrier so all the 3side will be always protected and one supplement.

The Navy has specifically stated that they wish to have 4-5 carriers in their kitty with a long term view of our naval defense needs. They are not willing to compromise on the numbers for sure.

They will have to increase the number of boats for 5 Carrier battle groups...We just dont have the no. of destroyers, frigates and most importantly Submarines to support the CBGs...

Correct!

Carrier battle group also known as floating airport, travel in convoy with escort ships whereby mother ship (centerpiece) is protected by Aegis cover. Each CBG has its own pin code, Television and radio station, Church, Jail, Gym, hospital. The new super carriers will avoid steam catapult (expensive and difficult to maintain) and instead go for versatile electromagnetic catapult which are soft and tender on airframe.

By the time we have 5 AC we will have more than enough subs and ships to support battle groups.

We already have enough ships for one escorts for further 3 we will have..

I Next 50 years India would be using 4 carrier in 3 carrier groups:

1. Bay of Bengal..
2. Arabian Sea..
3. Indian Ocean..

Present carrier sail with Delhi class destroyers and Abhay Class ASW corvettes..

In near future IN will be having enough vessels to act as escorts for carrier group..
INS Vikramaditya would be sailing with Kolkata Class Destroyers and Project 28 ASW corvettes..

And In future IN will manage enough ships to act as escorts for further two carrier groups..

I dont think we need a british Ac bro India has shown its capability by building its own Ac's but we should concentrate on making nuclear Ac

If you get good quality european stuff at cheaper price, lift it! It will add more muscle power that india can flex. After all both those INS Vikrant and INS Viraat came from the same source. And since Indians are masters in prolonging ship life, it would be an asset.

We are in process of acquiring close to 40-45 vessels including subs, frigates, destroyers etc. within the next 10 years or so. Eventually, 3-4 carrier battle groups will take shape. And as of now, other than the US Navy, no other nation has fielded anything formidable and capable a CBG as the Americans have.

Guys, we don't need 5 carriers, It is a simple and total waste of money. We don't need to even consider the British carrier because it is very very expensive. That $5 billion could go in submarine project.

Remember, we need to keep a balance of surface and submersible fleet. USA/UK/NATO believe in a powerful surface fleet while Russia/China/Pakistan believe in a strong underwater fleet.

We need to take the best of both and form a new doctrine. Remember, overspending is not the way; smart spending is.

3 carriers (with 4th one kept as a backup in the dock additionally) is MORE THAN ENOUGH for surface air power. We will be needing at least 30+ diesel electric submarines, ALL DESI, along with 5-8 SSBNs to make China think 10 times before invading us. For Pakistan, 1 carrier and 2 submarines are enough.

Our aim is not global power projection; it is SECURITY, CONTROL and COMPLETE OWNERSHIP of INDIAN OCEAN.

The 5 aircraft carriers are required because at least 2 will be under refitting or repairs in the docks at any given point of the time. Same with the submarines.

Well, we need at least 4 carriers anyway as not all of them will be always operational at all times. One or the other will based on shore for maintenance purposes. That's what the Navy has also planned, i.e. a fleet of 4-5 carriers in the long run i.e. in a span of the next 15-20 years. Its not that, we will acquire all 5 of them in quick succession, it will take at least 3 years before each of them becomes operational anyway. And neither are they gonna cost very high since almost all of them will be built in India barring the Gorshkov. So, even if we take the amount to be 5 billion USD, it will be spread over a 10-15 year period making it rather economical compared to the 10 billion USD that we will spend outright in the MMRCA deal for IAF.

Before India navy get 5 aircraft carriers, They should invest on Destroyer, Frigate ,SSN and SSK. And They will also need advance training, high-skilled soldiers. Now India got only one aircraft carrier and their CVBG is also limited in air defense, they got only their Delhi class destroyer for their air defense. So, IN need more advance destroyer like Type-053C. As SSN, they need more advanced Arihat Class submarine than the original one. If IN want 5 carrier, they need at least 2 out of ten destroyer, frigate for each CVBG and also need more SSN. now, they only got one SSN, oh, i forget another one leased from russia. As a frigate, IN got very advance one, Shivalik class. As a sub, they've faced more delay about their new SSK. For Anti-submarine, they just launched only entire hull of project 28 corvette.
But I think IN should more invest its infrastructure, base, training camp, more institute for their solider. If IN get their strong infrastructure, they can conquer everythings.

1AC needs atleast 2 Destroyers + 1 Frigate + 1 Corvette + 1 Submarine for protection.

IAC-3 might be nuclear powered Aircraft carrier

BY:Ajay Naik security Editorial Panel For Security Magazine

Chinese venture in to building fleet of aircraft carrier for their naval surface fleet might throw in different plans for Indian navy , Chinese who are already working on a 50000 ton STOBAR carrier known has "Shi Lam", which was earlier known has Varyag, a unfinished Soviet air craft carrier based on Kuznetzov carrier class which Russia currently operates .

China have plans to build four more aircraft carriers of similar class two been conventional and other two been nuclear powered which will enable the Chinese navy to operate its carriers far away from it home naval base ,and armed with three dozen Sukhoi-33 or Naval J-10 variant will have enough punch to showcase its capabilities in international waters .

While at home work on IAC-1 which has been named INS Vikrant has been under construction for a while in Kochi which will be launched by 2012 and will be operational few years later, IAC-2 has already been told will be a CATOBAR aircraft carrier with 65000 ton and plans are there to operate Fixed wings aircrafts like AEW (HAWK EYE 2D) and also ASW aircrafts.

While IAC-3 which will be launched by 2018 and to be deployed by 2025 will be replacement carrier for INS Vikramaditya which will only have service life of 20 to 25 years when inducted by 2012 . Recent discussion with a serving naval officer has disclosed that nuclear propulsion might be used to power the third aircraft carrier.

We are already making Kolkata Class Destoryers and some corvettes, its probably for the AC battle group. 3 are already planned and in construction phase. 4th is IAC which still in the drawing table. 5th is no where in sight. But yes we must start 5th IAC soon as Gorshky will be 20 25 years in service and we take decades to built an IAC.

Its very true we need more Destroyers. India must outsource construction to private and foreign firms to avoid delays as their their local docks are already piled up with orders.

IN already have plans for the destroyers and corvettes..

Like, Kolkata class will be commissioned when INS Vikramaditya will be commissioned..

In future, When 1AC will be commissioned another three advance destroyer will be commissioned with it..

The number of destroyers and AC are simultaneous constructed, This also allow IN to save money, A destroyer before time needs to be updated..

Therefore things are going smooth for surface fleet..

Though i support the Idea of constructing Naval vessels outside India..

It is possible to use the fifth generation fighter in aircraft carrier with super-cruise capability. When it take off , it is not a problem. But for land, i think they will get a problem with arresting wire. Arresting Wire is enough to stop super cruising aircraft.
If anyone has answer, pls answer to me.
