When Duronto was started by Mamata Bannerjee, it was a train that was par excellence.

I recently travelled to Pune and back from Mumbai and I found it to have totally gone to seed.

I travelled AC I.

The toilets were not cleaned regularly unless one made a huge noise about it and demanded the Complaint Book, which never arrived.

The Lunch was chicken curry and no vegetable. Could it be because the poor are eating two vegetable dishes these days (Kapil Sibal claimed so for the cause of rising prices) whereby there is no vegetables in the country to be served by the Indian Railway contractor?

I tried the so called 'continental'. If boiled food without any enhanced taste is 'continental', then 'continental' takes a new meaning!

And the fares have been hiked! Not that it is wrong, but then the service should have been status quo and not deteriorated!

But then one cannot blame the Railway Minister. He is too busy warding of the murder charges levelled against him!

MoS Railways gets reprieve in Trinamool leader murder case

But must he 'murder' the Railways?

I saw the Deccan Odessy (5 Star Tourist Train) pulling out of VT.

Never seen such a dirty and unwashed train in my life!

I spoke informally to the Railway staff on these issues and they said that while many more Railways had been added to the already existing one having bifurcated them for 'efficiency, the working hands remain what it is and also being reduced and so short staffed! They said they have the latest equipment, but not the staff to operated and hence the prestigious trains, apart from others, remains looking unwashed.

Re: bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad

You would find SF trains under 750 Km to be the cleanest. Why ? they start usually at 9 pm and reach their destination before 7 am. People just get on the train and go to sleep right away, short distance travelers avoid them due to lack of stoppages, not many people have food and not many people use the toilets except to pee.

MUMBAI: Two ambitious rail projects - proposed elevated rail corridor in Mumbai and a bullet train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai - got a boost today as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh finalized the targets for key infrastructure projects in PPP model in railways.

At a meeting with ministers and secretaries of key infrastructure ministries, it was decided to flag off the elevated rail corridor project for Mumbai suburban service with a total investment of Rs 20,000 crore in 2012-13.

The elevated rail corridor is crucial for Mumbai as it aims to give a faster service to daily commuters in the metropolis.

However, Railway Minister Mukul Roy was not present in the meeting. Chairman Railway Board Vinay Mittal attended the high-level meeting chaired by the PM.

It was also decided to finalise the action plan for the 500-km high-speed corridor from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, said railway sources. The project is estimated to cost about Rs 60,000 crore.

Known as bullet train project, the train is expected to run at 350 km per hour speed reducing the travel time to four hours between the two cities from seven hours by Duronto, the fastest train at present.

Good luck trying to fun an infrastructure project via the PPP route. We tried building expressways via the PPP route and look what has that got us, less than 600 Km of expressways. There is not enough short term profitability in PPP route to attract private investors. There is only one way to fund infrastructure projects and that is via long term public debt, which the Indian government cannot do today because they are neck deep in debt.

Beg to differ with you. During the NDA regime the PP route was used very effectively to build the expressways. Remember the highly successful Golden Quadrilateral project. The credit goes to the PM and to Maj.Gen Khanduri for driving the project.

During the UPA regime this was never a priority as they believed that sops and doles were more suitable for vote gathering rather than work on infrastructure. It is because of this attitude that we have such dismail figures on National Highways.

No. On contrary, Golden Quadilateral is a highway network. It will have certain segments of expressways. We plan to upgrade 16000 km of our highways into expressways by 2022. We currently have less than 1000 km of expressways. China has over 97000 km of expressways.

Under PPP the private player is supposed to hold in excess of 51% equity by bringing in a large chunk of the money involved in exchange for returns from investment.. The Indian PPP model based on BOT has been such an epic failure that the government is moving to EPC model in which government will invest money while private companies build.

Jaipur Metro to Start
Commercial Operations Likely From August

Jaipur Metro would most likely start its commercial operations in the Pink City by the end of August this year, official sources said Tuesday. The trial run of Jaipur Metro will most probably begin in July on its first-phase route from Mansarovar to Chandpole, 10 kms, and the commercial operations for commuters by the end of August, JMRC Chief Managing Director N C Goyal said. Railway's Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) yesterday has set a top speed of 80 km per hour for the Pink City's Metro train, Goyal said. After receiving JMRC's completion report on the first phase and plan for trial run and commercial operation, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety will soon issue clearance in view of Metro's speed certificate, he said, adding it might take 15 to 30 days for CMRS' approval. JMRC has spent so far Rs 1,800 crore on the first phase, Goyal said. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had flagged off the trial run of Metro on a stretch of 5 km between Mansarovar and Shyam Nagar on September 18 last year. In around eight months, JMRC has completed the civil, mechanical and electrical works on 10 kms route from Mansarovar to Chandpole.

New Indian government to
push ahead with high-speed
projects

THE massive electoral win of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in India's recent general election has accelerated plans to build the country's first high- speed line. India's new prime minister Mr Narendra Modi reportedly gave the go-ahead to develop the 545km Mumbai - Ahmedabad line as a showpiece project at a recent meeting with the chairman of India's High Speed Rail Corporation (HSRC) Mr Satish Agnihotri. Indian Railways (IR) and French National Railways (SNCF) are understood to have developed a detailed business plan for the corridor, the prefeasibility study of which has been completed by a consortium of Systra, Italferr and Rites. Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) is currently preparing a detailed study of the proposed Rs 700bn ($US 12.1bn) corrido, which is scheduled to be submitted in May 2015. Jica is believed to have agreed in principle to part-finance the project by way of a soft loan. IR is expected to freeze technical specifications and formalise systems contracts ahead of the submission of the Jica report, while the Railways Ministry has started to finalise a status report relating to the financial, technical and business models for all planned high-speed lines. A prefeasibility report by MottMacdonald on the 1044km New Delhi - Patna line has also been submitted and is under the ministry's consideration, sources said. Project cost is estimated at Rs 1300bn.

The entire population between Delhi and Agra is uncontrollable, rebels and the most uncouth and undisciplined people. The entire population between Delhi and Agra railway lines defecate on railways lines, their cows and buffaloes resides on railway lines. they consider the railways land as their fathers property, they pull chains, they stop the rail wherever they desire, they bring their milk Cains to AC I. They beat up the reserve passengers, they carry out thefts and threaten the reserved passenger. They do not hesitate to beat up people, murder and loot them..

How can you achieve that super speed between Delhi and Agra.. that is Mulayams's belt, that is Mayawati beat and that is Jat Land... all rolled in one..
