Aided by a friendly business climate cultivated by India’s prime minister Narendra Modi, San Diego–based General Atomics is exploring avenues to shift production and development of next-generation military weaponry and infrastructure to his country, according to a weekend report from India's Financial Express.

The company has already retained the services of Vivek Lall, who has in the past worked for Boeing, Raytheon, and NASA, among others. The Financial Express reports that Lall met with Modi during a recent trip to Washington DC to promote the prime minister's "Make in India" campaign to attract business.

Lall is employed with the General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems wing of the company, which is exploring the military application of electromagnetic rail guns, which can launch missiles and other projectiles without the use of explosives. The technology could also replace steam-powered catapults in launching fighter

An alliance against China is developing in Asia. I am sure this has been addressed among the members. Also us bases are all over South China Sea.
Doubtful China gets far beyond its coast.

They won't fight us directly but they will support their suicide bomber nation.
They are providing suicide bomber with everything just to keep India at bay.

I saw this thread and got very excited. Then I started to read it. Now it just makes me sad that this thread talks about everything else apart from the topic it was created for. Can anyone with some knowledge on developments please contribute?

Rail gun is a waste of time and money. They are too slow to recharge and fire. Though it is said that they can accelerate at any velocity, that would consume huge amounts of energy and significantly slows down rate of fire. Also, rail guns are just artillery with electricity instead of charge. They aren't accurate.

USA will never incorporate rail guns at all. It is a failure

Frank Whittle. This genious proppsed to build a "Jet" fighter which would easily exceed 500 mph mark making RAF invincible. But the then British Gov turned down offer as to them it was "unrealistic". Currently those "unrealistic" tech is the life line of air forces around the world.

Wait till 2050 to decide if "Rail Guns" are "faliure, inaccurate, waste of time and money"

Rail guns need huge electricity which means they need nuclear reactors or big generators. Smaller generators will result in 1 round per 10 minutes

The Railgun is the most revolutionary weapon in development. It makes all naval and field guns obsolete, not to mention SAMs up to 100km. With miniaturization, all projectiles with chemical propellant will be obsolete. It is also the basis for putting payloads into orbit at a very low cost. The HVP round developed for the American railgun is quite accurate and one of the cheapest guided rounds for only $25,000. The gun system it replaces has extended range guided rounds costing $800,000.
