In most countries with better education, moving to Middle class and above, living in Cities, caused height to increase in the general population.

However, in India, I am seeing reverse, the Urban Kids are not going out of home to play and so many are ending up shorter than their parents.

Kids from Lower Middle class to middle-middle class are having good increase in height though.
Children not going to play is not the reason for stunting growth. It has primarily got to do with nutrition.

The shocking reality is that despite India's impressive economic growth, the average height is declining.
This revelation is not by any NGO but the government's own NFHS.

India's ITES driven service based economy does not benefit the great majority.
Majority of Indian people still live hand to mouth and have to compromise on their nutritional needs to make their ends meet.

Fair enough!

We did get better access to food and nutrition, but large section of society chose to have pleasure food instead of proper nutrition.

Going out to play and having physical exercise does add to better physique and health as evident from China and South Korea where they have pushed mandatory play hours in school and compulsory sports for each kid.

This kicked up a storm sometime back. It's just not possible with a state with one of the highest HDI in the country apart from a very good GSDP in PCI terms & equally good PPP.

You may download these papers if interested.

Yeah, did not get why Pronab Sen got butt-hurt by Shamika Ravi's piece. I mean come on, we all know that NSO and their methodologies are shit; why defend them?

It only shows that the findings of NFHS are not worth the paper they are printed on and Shamika Ravi is correct to question the lazy NSO babus.

Translation: Don't want Indian government to take measures that will rein in inflation and help them win next general elections.

Most Indian kids live in rural areas where just going to school and back alone will burn more calories than 2 hrs at a gym.Not to mention many of them also work alongside their parents in fields.

Majority of Indians are engaged in jobs that pays meager incomes which have not kept in pace with inflation.Balanced diet required for mental and physical growth consisting of rice, wheat, lentils, pulses, vegetables, poultry, fish is expensive to bulk of the population
and the government subsidy mostly covers only rice and nothing else.
No wonder majority of Indians are anamic and suffer from micronutrient deficiencies

So it does not surprise me that average indian height is not increasing.I've been to villages across WB,UP,Odisha,Jharkhand and Chattisgarh and at 5'8 i would be the tallest in the village.

The question still remains that who will build a the first Chip making FAB in India. Foxconn/Vedanta has failed. The Indian government has $10 billion in the kitty for anybody who takes the initiative to build the FAB in India. Still no takers.

In there an international conspiracy to deny India this capability? I hope not.

Taiwan, the master of FAB business is dead silent on it. They want India to recognize Taiwan as a separate nation before any commercial business could proceed. They are asking too much for India to reverse 75 years of its policy. Yes; India could do that and start a war with China. It is too early for that. It is not possible until, india is $10 trillion economy. Then Chinese recognizing India as equal power will shout about but refrain from any war like moves.

Hence, Taiwan has to find an alternative route to build a chip making FAB in India, today. Who is asking for technology for 5nm FAB?. India will be happy with 28nm FAB. Somehow this has to be built by hook or by crook……….cheers.

Indian chip-maker Polymatech to invest $1 billion on expansion

The Chennai-based firm plans to expand its production capacity to 10 billion chips by December 2024 from the current output of 300 million. The company’s current production facility is located in Chennai and it plans to set up two new plants in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, around 90 km from Bengaluru.“Our second plant is slated to start in September. The plant is ready, the final civil works are going to happen. Plant 3 will also be in Krishnagiri around 40 km away from plant 2,” Nandam told DH in an interview.“By December 2023 we will be reaching 2 billion chips. We have already issued purchase orders and machines are expected by the end of November,” he said.Polymatech makes opto-semiconductor chips that are used mostly in lighting, medical and food sanitisation applications. “The total addressable market for opto-semiconductors is $2.2 trillion by 2030. The current size is around $1.35 trillion,” he said.
