The precursor to Internet that is the ARPANET was funded by DARPA. GPS was meant to be for US military. DARPA funded a self driving car challenge in 2005 way before companies even thought of working on it. All these projects were funded out of curiosity or some hope it will be useful in military applications. But they have taken a life of their own since then and they are now intrinsic part of everyone's life all over the world barring may be the self driving car.

Boston dynamics Robots might look like they are meant for military applications. But the skills to develop such complex robots is not something you can develop overnight. Look at the idiot Musk who wants to sound cool and always dips his fingers in everything. They unveiled a pathetic humanoid robot known as "Tesla Bot" one year after it's announcement. Boston dynamics has lot of unique IP and it's employees have special set of skills. Even if they don't build anything of value for civilian purposes someone using their IP will or one of their own employees might quit and start a company of their own. If their Robots are meant for only military applications then Hyundai wouldn't bought it.

The 400 aces of land is located in the hilly tehsil of Shahuwadi. The site known as Sathali Pathar. The officials will check the feasibility of setting up Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, MIDC unit at the location. The tehsil is part of the western ghats, most of which is protected by a conservation reserve forest.
