What first of all has to be understood is what is this 'intellect' composed of?

Knowledge is one thing, intellect and imagination to translate that knowledge and innovating is another thing.

One can only apply oneself if there is a 'terminal vision' i.e. national strategy is known. Sadly, that is not there. One cannot imagine or innovate in a vacuum.

It's the Army's job to fight enemies of th state. Internal, external and also those who are policy makers and not doing their jobs in providing security to the nation.I am yet to see any armed forces not at loggerheads with the "system" including the US in its own ways.
Its not the same Yusuf, the intensity and stiffing in India is mind boggling to say the least. The Army in the eastern border is at the receiving end of it, because the diplomats are complete idiots

That is what I am saying Brigadier, the complete blocking of the Armed Forces in such an important matter.

We have failed to produce another Sundarji and it is telling. Someone well placed told me army higher up is nothing better than beaureucracy.
Possibly there will be people in all systems and professions who are time passers and get to the top ranks without rocking the boat as also those who have the right connections and so on.

However, it would be too general a statement that all are afflicted with a bureaucratic bent of mind and practice.

I am sure you are aware that the Cold Start doctrine was initiated by Gen Bipin Joshi, but was contemptuously set aside by the Govt duly influenced by 'the saviours of the nation'- the knowalls - the IAS! This was stated by Lt Gen Oberoi, who is an ex Vive Chief and was the DGMO.

It was only when the long and tardy mobilisation in Op Parakrama happened and the strategic surprise was compromised that the Govt hastly accepted the Cold Start Doctrine.

Gen Sundarji's Doctrine was a good one, but it would never be put into action because of the lack of political will to take the 'dangers' in their stride.

Therefore, the next best course was the Cold Start.

There are people who are quite innovative and brilliant, but you cannot do much except make postulations and doctrines to suit your intellectual restlessness and get self satisfaction and that is all since there is no strategic vision nor is there any political vision or direction.

What has this country done for its armed forces

This article is just based on presumptions and assumptions

This article is BLOODY bull shit .

Has the country suffered from any of the Army men's Intellectual deficiencies or inadequacies
which this bloody fool is assuming

Who was responsible for 1962 and Kargil

And Who was responsible for the many successes like 47 ; 65 , 67 Nathu La , 71 , 84 to 87 Siachen ,
99 kargil ; and The immensely successful Kashmir controlling and HOLDING Operation from 1989 onwards

And who floats stupid ideas like AFSPA withdrawl from time to time ,Bloody Civilians float this idea

With a meagre budget and meagre salaries you expect IIT ians to join the Army

Yusuf,

Look at the dithering over the arms acquisition.

How many years it is that we are lacking the 155mm arty and when will there be the light 155mm How for the High Altitude?

Therefore, what planning can be done.

Imagine, you have a Continental meal served in a fancy French restaurant in France and there is no table cutlery.

You are bewildered whether you should use your fingers or should you wait forever till the lethargic waiter brings the same, and that too, if he indeed does!!

And your family howling that it is high time that you start the meal!

An operation similar to the Cold start was offered by the Army during 2001 -02 when it became clear
that a full scale war on Sundarji Doctrine is not happening

Army HQs had presented a limited war model during the 10 month mobilisation
to the GOI but the play safe mentality of GOI prevailed

Operation Parakram was also a success

It was intended to make the world sit up and take notice about India's seriousness

According to info in the public domain :

In the first phase ie in January In a brilliant tactical move The 2 Strike Corps was
placed At JUST 2 KM from the Border and Missiles too were readied leading to PANIC in Pentagon
and BROWN pants in GHQ Rawalpindi

This was done by the Commanding officer of 2 corps on his own and The Govt simply TRANSFERRED
him for his boldness

Secondly in May June ALL three Strike Corps were amassed together in another bold move
once again causing Panic amongst the enemy

I don't think civilians are at fault.

Just those who are in Govt.

I wish the Govt showed the same alacrity in defence affairs as they are showing over the economic growth, where they are ready to face the wrath of the country to accelerate the economic growth even at the expense of the votes and the public anger!

conomics they understand, but Defence is as knowledgeable as their knowing personally the 'man in the moon' and the experience thereof!

The Current MMRCA tender is another example of the FAR SIGHTED NESS and intellect of the Bureaucracy

The babus of MEA were too keen to please USA and were ready for intrusive clauses like CISMOA , EUMA

It is the IAF which put its foot down

Nothing wrong with the IAF, it has a much better culture, but the Army and the Navy are in trouble.
