Great news that the contract for 145 M-777 ULH has finally been inked. Hope the deal for 100 K-9 SPH too is inked soon. Parikar and Modi make Antony and Sonia Gandhi look like lame ducks who wasted 10 years by blacklisting all possible defence manufacturers.

Soltam had issues with relation to corruption which got it banned with OFB artillery division for some time.

Besides, The angle of elevation was limited in the soltam design, This was latter rectified with Indian design ..

================

2001-2002, Indian efforts to design upgrade M46, But has issues in design specially metallurgy.

2005-2008, This design came out with new muzzle breaker, But it too has issues same as earlier one.

2009, This design came out with help of soltam, It works fine but has issues with elevation.

Latter this year, OFB announced to upgrade rest of the M46 with its older design, But the change is that it utalised 80% of already proven dhanush.
=======================

Baba Kalyani.co also shown similar upgrade during 2014 defexpo.

Thanks Kunal. So how many 130mm were actually upgraded? 36 or 180? I would hope more are being upgraded as a priority.

It was called ARZU, A mated version of Arjun chassis and Slovakian turret..

It was a gud option, But Slovakian pulled back and let Russian take over and compete with Koreans ..

Which we know, Russian loses to Koreans ..

Actually its export version of 155mm SpGH ZUZANA. Built around 1990 in Slovakia, but hadn't seen any production. Wonder if BEML has undertaken any production of it or not.
Say hello to BEML Himalaya

We cant even mount a 155mm Gun on tank chassis.:doh: Btw what was the name of Russian SPG? In many cases I think if we build a SPG on T 72 chassis it would help us, as we have license to produce T 72, but not K 9.

@Kunal Biswas can you tell what propellant charge and explosive Indian army uses in artillery shells?

Also if 160mm Mortar falls to artillery's category why DRDO is not building one? A breach loading 160mm Mortar?

Go through the thread for more information, Also Defense research organization is part of Government of India so does Army, It only work when one wing issues a requirement to other for needed hardware, It does not act on its own.

The single 160mm Tampella regiment is on its way out. Production of the type has apparently ceased and spares and ammunition are becoming difficult to obtain.

Russian 160mm Mortar is better than Tampala. Russian Mortar is breach loading therefore easier to reload. Also Tampala fires 38kg bomb filled when Russian mortar fires 40 kg bomb. Tampala has better range anyway. In my opinion, army should issue orders to produce them. Bangladeshis have 8inch mortars.

Thanks for the update. But IMO ZUZANA in 2nd pic is a much more practical design then ARZU as far as the miniature models goes.

A year ago In an NDTV show, Chalte-Chalte, hosted by Shekhar Gupta, Baba Kalyani mentioned that his company was able to reduce the weight of the "Indian field Gun" to 900 Kgs from 4 tons. That is some massive reduction in weight to consider. Is Indian Government aware of such developments done by Indian companies?
