That was OFB product not DRDO, OFB worked on 155/45cal gun which is a meter less in length to 155/52cal..

155/52cal has longer range than 155/45cal with special ammo, also its thicker than 45cal barrel so more rounds can fired from same barrel..

Re: Arjun vs T90 MBT

IMHO the solution for the problem is a two tank fleet. Let's the T-90S and T-90MS completely replace obsolete T-72M1 fleet, and supplement these with Arjun Mk1 and Mk2 and eventuall future variants.

Re: Arjun vs T90 MBT

Arjun MK3 is projected to replace 1900 T-72M1, 1600 T-90S will remain in fleet..

100+ light tank will be operational for mountain region, T-90MS is not required in IA though there are voice screaming for it mainly from Russian agents in MOD..

But you will agree that upgrade for T-90S is needed. Perhaps the Ukrainian proposal might be more interesting than Russian?

Yes, absolutely and most logical and economical..

Up-gradation of existing tanks to more or less T-90MS equal is a very good deal, Buying a new tank which merely a mid upgrade and also flawed in design is not wise for our military, Presently existing T-90S are getting upgrade with Indian also Russian hardware and Software but this upgrade is not complete as Ukrainian offer..

But you will agree that upgrade for T-90S is needed. Perhaps the Ukrainian proposal might be more interesting than Russian?

India`s own effort to upgrade existing T-90S

User-trials of a T-90S MBT equipped with IRDE-developed and BEL-built commander's panoramic sight and driver's uncooled thermal imager (derived from that developed for the Arjun Mk1A MBT) have just gotten underway. If all goes well, then these two items will be retrofitted on to both the first 310 T-90S MBTs acquired for the Indian Army just about a decade ago, as well as on 1,000 T-72M1 MBTs that are due to undergo a deep upgrade. For both MBT-types, VRDE has already developed the APU, which too is now undergoing user-trials.

---------------

The CVRDE-upgraded prototype of the T-90S has done away with the T01-K04 and substitutes it with the IRDE-developed and BEL-built commander's panoramic sight (which houses a SAGEM-built MATIS-STD thermal imager operating in the 3-5 micron bandwidth), which has resulted in enhanced static visibility levels for both the gunner and commander.

-------------

In addition, the IV528-2 digital ballistics computer has given way to an indigenous solution developed by TATA Power Strategic Electronics Division, while the IRDE-developed driver's uncooled thermal imaging night sight has replaced the TVN-5 night-vision device.

------------

Furthermore, a DEAL-developed MMW-based IFF system has been installed for enhancing the MBT crew's situational awareness.

-----------

Lastly, the T-90S' track-wraps have been indigenised by AMW-MGM Forgings Pvt Ltd, which has also developed tracks with metal/rubber-brushed parallel pin-jointed gearings, stamped track-links adapted to accept rubber pads, with steel needles on the track-pins providing conductivity and picking up static electricity from rubber-brushed pin-jointed gearings during movement.

Russian Inputs :

Russia will make the Indian T-90 "digital"

The Ministry of Defence of India in 2013, will receive first sets of digital control for main battle tanks T-90, the newspaper "Izvestia". The contract to supply systems have almost signed. Sets allow to make the T-90 "digital", jointly developed "Uralvagonzavod" and concern "Constellation". Thanks to them, the tanks can be connected to a single data network.
The new system is called "Constellation-2M". It is an automated control system that allows commanders to control units in real-time. The source said the newspaper in the military-industrial complex of the "Constellation-2M" includes a display that displays all the tactical information. Currently available in two versions of ACS - for linear and command tanks.

Commander's system includes several information display, which displays information about the location of friendly forces and enemy forces. The negotiations for the supply of Indian systems "Constellation-2M" conducted in the past year. According to the source, "Izvestia", the trials of the equipment and software had to be replaced, as well as to achieve compatibility, "Constellation-2M" the Indian "stuffing" T-90.

Moreover, as noted by the newspaper in Russia digital systems for the T-90 did not pass the state tests. In particular, following the teachings of the "Caucasus-2012", which has been tested and "Constellation-2M", the military found 150 deficiencies. The Ministry of Defense of Russia insisted on the closure of the project, but later it was decided to continue the development of ACS and to devote to this project additional funding.

France seems to be the only country with advanced military industry and scientific base, that agrees to sold their electronics and electrooptics solutions as separate products.

They are all willing to sell them separately, no one wants to buy them when they can get better French products.
