An Indian company has emerged with a bold plan for taking over Sri Lanka’s struggling Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA). The proposal, which would see India pumping $205 million into the airport for a 70% share for 40 years, was approved by Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and sent on to the country’s cabinet for review. While Sri Lanka has received a total of eight proposals from various other parties — including China — to take over the airport, the Indian plan isreportedly being reviewed on its own.

There is little traffic to Sri Lanka. Future routes from ME or EU to Singapore, Malaysia will most likely go through India. Sri Lankans can come to India and then go to any part of the world. What is the advantage of having Mattala Airport.

When I studied Sri Lanka and China, I felt Mattala is the most useless project for Sri Lanka.

We have about 40 lakh men armed , active army + reserves forces combined.

Let us first find some one who is willing to fight these 40 lakh men face to face then we can start civilian arm training.

Although more likely we will fall short of firearms rather than people willing to fight.

Like the demise of the soviet union,once a communist totalitarian system is faced with a vibrant, democratic system which is organised and has zero or basically efficient and corruption and leakages-free, the totalitarian system which does not allow innovation will always offer less in comparison and eventually lose out in every competition for tenders and economic competition

this is what we are seeing time and again - it''s just tat india while being democratiic in previous goi«'s was not leakage -free and thus the relatively more efficient cpcprc was the better product and marketed itself better and won more contracts globally

all that is beginning to change under modi and will keep changing as long as we continue to fight and avoid leakages in the system .

if india continues help its citizens especially the younger ones innovate and form enterprise then we will see india seriously rise above cpcprc in 10 years or so

all these sri lanka etc etc , even packland will prefer to be with india ....even now pack is raising serious questions about the value of cpec ...

.if india rides out this doklam issue pack will get a fright of their life seeing india stand up to the previously thought-of big boy ( cpcprc) plus if we fight corruption and incorrect big money flow, wrong tendering procedures, we will rise above cpcprc and pack will actually prefer to be with us

the enemy might never able to reach you physically ......so , you better not worry about learning to load a firearm !
but that don't means enemy won't reach you.....they will , and they will hit each corner in no time....and we have no preperation for that either at govt level nor a individual level.....

in the event of war , enemy will reach you by wire !!

Those few islands there belong to Indonesia - they are sparsely populated and some of them are deep-water ports quite suitable for military use. Getting a military base there - or even a Chabahar-like joint-development scenario - would let us maintain a choke-hold over China's supplies.

Sri Lanka is borrowing money to pay off its debt.

They are borrowing from Bangladesh too if the Wion story is true.

This won't end well for Sri Lanka besides posing a new headache for us.
