Right direction would be emergency procurement of Rafales, meteors, t90s and replacing of antiques like mig21s 27s, t55s and 72s. Also testing nukes with yield in megatons so that we could be sure that they will do their job when fired in anger and then a full scale offensive.

They are preparing to create a chaos in Sub continent. So that they can get out of the current situation with the mediation of P5 countries.

They have their own ideas to get out of this noose kind of situation. Divert the attention of people showing India, at the same time get the help from middle east, china and other countries. The best way for this is to paint themselves as victims and India as an aggressor who is trying to occupy its territories when Pakistan is passing through bad phase.

T55s as much as I know are really a small fraction of our MBTs and are being phased out gradually, replaced by orders of T90s and of now arjun mk1a

Almost 18 months after the Ministry of Defence gave the nod to get 464 new tanks of the T-90 series, the deal is set to be finalised and an order to be placed for making these tanks in India.

This a year old news and add this to the months old arjun order of mk1a and recovery and rescue vehicle

Army accepts ‘Mark1-A’ version of Arjun tanks

An upgraded version of the Arjun tank, having better firing and mobility, has been accepted by the Army following month-long validation trials in Rajasthan.



The trials were completed in December last and a report has followed. The Army is looking at 118 pieces of the new version. In 2010-11, the first version of the Arjun had joined the Army and 124 pieces had been ordered.



The production of the new version, dubbed as Arjun ‘Mark 1-A’, is likely to commence within this year at the existing facility at Avadi in Tamil Nadu. It has a total of 14 upgrades over the existing version. These include an auto-target tracker, automatic gear system and improvement in suspension.



Only the missile firing ability remains to be validated, which will be done once the missiles, being developed by the DRDO, are ready. The DRDO missile programme has been a major success and firing of missile from a tank is being fine-tuned.



As part of the arrangement with the Army, the DRDO has promised to set up a system to maintain the Arjun within India. It will be an annual maintenance contract with one of the PSUs such as Bharat Earth Movers Limited.



The tanks, as part of the trials, have already done some 4,000 km of run. The upgraded Arjun has a 120mm rifled gun capable of firing a full range of high explosives, laser homing anti-tank (LAHAT) missile that had a tandem warhead, which is capable of defeating all types of modern armour.



In December last year, the Ministry of Defence had informed Parliament that the ‘Arjun Mark 1-A’ was being validated at trials. This was the first official confirmation that the ‘Mark 1-A’ will be an additional version of the tank till the ‘Mark 2’ version, somewhat lighter in weight, is readied and accepted.



The development shows that the MoD is ready to keep on improving the Arjun, be addition of more power or wanting the weight to be reduced. The Army was okay with the ‘Mark 1-A’ version, but wants the next version to be lighter than its present weight of 68 tonne. Most modern European tanks are of the same weight, and tank-transporters (specialised trucks) for Arjun are available to ferry it.



The ‘Mark 2’ will have to be lighter by some 3 tonne. This may require some modification in the hull of the tank for the final contours to emerge.

I have seen trainloads of them on the railway station the name of which i dont want to disclose. I have seen them in many places and garrisons towns and i feel that they are not just a fraction of our armour. The army has faced the same neglect over the years as the air force.

Even T 34s can support the infantry, so why not get them? Stop talking like a fool, will you? Infantry and armour compliment each other in combat. You think the enemy infantry would have no support of their armour or they will come without their ATGMs?

T-55s are no longer deployed as part of combat arms. They have mostly been retired or mothballed as reserves.

The few which do operate are part of army engineer corps, and are used in vehicle recovery and mine clearing and other enginerrien purposes, i.e support roles only.

A few T-55s have been assigned to the LoC for direct fire support to forces and are positioned in hull down and dug in positions. Again not part of the infantry formation, just a makeshift support element

Agreed. Arjun has beaten even t90 and have superior armour and mobility. It has the same weight as the abrams, i dont know what problems army has with that. We can use Arjuns as terror weapon just like the German Tiger was.
