I thought Nehru had ordered to vacate Assam, (Jorhat and Brahmaputra valley) in 1962 . Had the Chinese not withdrawn Nehru would not have halted anywhere North of Calcutta.

Today, India's North-East has a weak link called Chicken's Neck. If you can ensure that it is not lost then India's North-East is not lost.

It is difficult to conduct defense of India's North-East via Sittwe. Good trade can be done though.

Best defense for North East is to make it self sustainable for 10 days intense fight while Indian army opens up another front along Sino-indo border. And it seems that's what IA is doing. Rafales, aakash Sam and bhramos will be big deterrent to PLA and PLA-AF. We will also have second aircraft carrier /CBG one each for Karachi and Malacca Strait.

Porkis lacks in air power as well as navy while PLA-AF will be same situation as India is now with Russian bvrs while IAF would be using meteor and Israeli elta countermeasure.

Doesn't matter if we grabbed it. What matters is are we retaining territory as a bargaining chip to be released later like before or are we using salami tactics to grab pok.

We at many occasions flushed our gains down the toilet just to be at equal position (not of strength) of pakis on negotiations table.
