GRSE Calcutta Bags First Major Warship Export Order

May 01, 2012, (Sawf News) - Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has become the first Indian shipyard to bag a major warship construction contract from abroad .
On April 23, 2012 the keel of an Offshore Patrol Vessel (MOPV) ordered by Mauritius was laid during a ceremony attended by the High Commissioner of Mauritius, Dr Arye Kumar Juggessar, and GRSE Chairman & MD Rear Admiral (Retd) A.K. Verma.
On March 4, 2011, GRSE had signed a contract valued at $58.5 million to build the ship within 42 months of contract signing.
The 1350 ton MOPV would be 74.10 mtr long with a molded breadth of 11.40 mtr. It will have a top speed of 20 knots and a maximum range of 5000 nautical miles.
The ship would be fitted with state of the art Main Engines, Engine Control and Integrated Bridge System integrating all Communication and Navigation Systems.
The ships will have fully air conditioned modular accommodation for upto 93 personnel.
The multipurpose MOPV would be capable of performing Anti Piracy, Search & Rescue Operation, Anti Smuggling & Anti-Drug Surveillance, Anti Poaching Operation, Logistic Support Operation (including Transportation of Dry Cargo, Fuel Oil, Fresh Food), Pollution Response and External Fire Fighting, Transportation of Small Detachment of Troops/Personnel, Helicopter Operations (without hanger).
The ship, once constructed, will ensure safety and security in the Maritime Zones/EEZ of Mauritius.
