Defunct Humanity: Russian AAMs. Part 1

In general, the serial Russian air-to-air missiles are divided into 4 families: short-range R-73 (AA-11 'Archer'), median range R-77 (RVV-AE) and R-27 (AA-10 'Alamo') and long range R-33 modifications. All these weapons were developed by the missile design house 'Vympel' and now are manufactured by relative new corporation 'Tactical Missiles Weapon', where 'Vympel' was merged. The upgraded variant of R-33 missile is the 300 km range AA-13 'Arrow' (R-37, K-37, Izdeliye 610 or R-VD), but the fighters with needed radar capability (Su-35) is only entering a serial production.

The same is about 'Novator's KS-172 (RVV-L) missile wich extramally long range (400 km) demand according radar capability. The anti-radiation Kh-31 missile previously has only a limited AWACS-kill capability due to the lack of an active radar. The other kinds of new generation missiles are in active development process in Russia and used to be installed on 5th gen PAK-FA/FGFA fighter. They are yet to be de-classified.

What is the range at which PAK FA would be able to detect the enemy? A BVR missile is good enough for the job.
BVR's are about 50% accurate but new generation METEOR etc are better
Chinese BVR maybe 10%. K-172 is an anti radiation missile which locks in
and destroys anything transmitting a radar signal AWACS work by radar so
they would give a strong signal.

400km range missile ,see link above
The AWACS would be escorted atleast by a Squadron of Front line fighters since it is the Crown Jewel of the AF.

I do not see how you will be able to detect an AWACS at 450 Km away and hit the target 450 Km away?

The effective range would be around 200 Km.

A new state-of-the art, anti-radiation missile that can target enemy radars and communication facilities is being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

At present there is no such missile in India's arsenal, while some advanced countries, including the US, Israel and Russia, have such a weapon, top DRDO sources told The Hindu here on Sunday. The government recently gave the go-ahead for the project, and the design work has already begun at one of the key DRDO laboratories here. Sources added that in any war scenario, radar and communication facilities of the enemy would be the first target.

The new air-to-surface 100-km range tactical missile picks up radiation or signals emitted by radars and communication systems, homes on to the target and destroys the network. The missile's front-end comprises a sensor to pick up various radio frequencies. It will be a single-stage, liquid-propelled system, sources said.

The missile is expected to be ready in the next three to five years. After a series of developmental trials, it will be integrated with fighter aircraft, including Sukhoi and Light Combat Aircraft.

DRDO scientists have also started work on developing a 150-km range surface-to-air missile (SAM) as part of its plans to have SAMs of different ranges. The Akash missile, which has already been inducted into the Air Force and the Army, has an interception range of 25 km.

The Hindu : Today's Paper / MISCELLANEOUS : DRDO to develop anti-radiation missile

Late as usual with another important missile.

may be they should think of having the anti radiation sensor on Nirbhy.
We need super sonic missile for this. Nirbhay being subsonic will not be very useful.

X-band radar on PAKFA would be long range.( 1 of 3 radars)
Usually 2-4 plane escorts.

India developing radar-destroying Anti-Radiation Missile - India - DNA

India developing radar-destroying Anti-Radiation Missile

After the success of Agni-V project, India is developing an Anti-Radiation Missile (ARM) which can hugely multiply the strike capabilities by destroying the enemy's advance warning system.

Production of the ARM, which are among the most advanced missiles, is being undertaken on priority basis by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), which specialises in the missile development.

Such missiles can be mounted on Sukhoi fighter planes Su-30 MKI, 140 of which have already been acquired by India from Russia and around 100 more are expected to be delivered in due course of time.

These missile can detect a radar by tracking its electro-magnetic radiation and pulses generated, an official told PTI, adding these would be independent of the radar wavelength and be able to destroy it.

Such missiles, currently in use of some major powers like the US, can detect and attack a radar antenna or transmitter with minimal aircrew input.

The proportional guidance system that homes in on enemy radar emissions has a fixed antenna and seeker head in the missile's nose.

The Anti-Radiation Missiles in use by the US Air Force move at the speed of over Mach 2, propelled by a smokeless and solid-propellant rocket motor.

The US Air Force introduced High Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM) on the F-4G Wild Weasel and later on specialised F-16s equipped with the HARM Targeting System (HTS).

Other projects being undertaken on priority basis by the DRDO are Long Range Air-to-Air Missile and Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile.

The flight test and production clearance of Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missiles is also on the cards.

The DRDO is also planning guided flight of Astra Missile from ground and air in the near future.

Operationalisation of the third regiment of BrahMos missile for Army, its integration with Su-30 MKI as also underwater trials from pontoon are also on the priority list.

DRDO is also working on early static validation trials of Pinaka MK-II rocket, with an extended range of 60 kms, along with user trials of its warhead.

The present range of the Pinaka rocket, launched in clusters of 12 from indigenously-built multi-barrel launcher, is 39-40 km in 40 seconds with 1.2 tons of high explosives.

Fitted with a variety of warheads like anti-tank mines and blast-cum-pre-fragmented high explosives, Pinaka can destroy an area of 350 sq kms.

Army has already raised two regiments of Pinaka and more are planned.

Flight trial of 'Prahar' missile as tactical battlefield surface-to-surface weapon system is also in the pipeline.

except china and usa no other country at the moment are able to develop something called awacs killer
seriously did you take your medicine before posting this if we go by your comments that Only china has the best weapons apart from USA then why are they buying weapons from Russia do you know who is a major weapons buyer from Russia after India.......... Don't BS and put your thinking cap on

GET SOME:rofl: LIFE
Bought from 98-2001. That is WELL past the service life of a Kh-31 which is 7-8 years if you never unpack it.
