What do we do with spammers? Like the ones that sign up to advertise cheap viagra?

I don't know why this kind gesture! i think one "ajtr" got elevated to field marshal rank and suddenly started posting unacceptable stuff on Kashmir!!!
No, she posted unacceptable stuff about Hyderabad.

what good will it do by not banning members who deserve it? i think mod and admins will be more productive doing other valuable things in the forum instead of censoring the comments posted by unwanted members.

exactly my sentiments - now mods will be giving valuable time to folks who break rules ? not logical - ban them from posting not from observing - thus , as they dont follow rules , they can just drool at all the good stuff going on but cant participate .

also time ban is a great idea as suggested by others on this thread ( yellow card etc ) if they misbehave 1st time 1mth posting ban , 2nd offence 3 mths etc etc

the present idea of mods going through banned posters is unsustainable and youre paying more attention to ( i.e in actual fact you are REWARDING ) the WRONG people ....such logic is unsustainable , except in the few cases of those who were incorrectly banned in the first place .

please re-think your strategy

also post but just that all their posts will be pre moded. That means none of their posts will be visible in threads as soon as they post but only after a moderator goes through it and approves it.. only then will the post be visible to all members for reaction or comment.
Jacob approves!

Echo hear. If someone comes only to incite some sort of feud, do they really deserve to be able to post again? What if they are profoundly abusive? I think bans should be reserved in such cases.

what about people who are advertising

Will they also go to the pre-mod section.

People abusing PM for such things as well.

How are you going to deal with them.

i think some of you have not got the idea properly :-

1. spammers selling undies and viagra will go with an ip block

2. people doing mischief with their right to PM gets their PM rights taken away as well as visitor msg rights too (we have such members on dfi ), a premodded member gets their pm monited automatically

3. people coming here for the aim to flame and troll gets a block

4. now this limited system is only for those members who are fine just have had an emotional outburst ot could not control himself after a mod warning gets this limited /premodded option so that they can correct themselves and be back in a dignified way.

about the most important thing this will not function in anyway to disrupt normal members posting , all the action is dealt by the staff only and they will manage the operations and this is not something too hectic or hard we have the software and the system inplace to deal with it , the normal members wont even know whats happening .

also the mods still have the warning cards yellow and red which are used to give warnings to members these are called infarctions

DFI in its endeavor to strive towards even greater hights and member friendly initiatives introduces a very first in the forum world. DFI announces that it is getting rid of BANs. Yes you are reading it right. No more BANs on DFI. No it does not mean that DFI is going to become a trolls delight, we at DFI have decided to place all those who deserve a "BAN" into a pre mod category where they will be able to access the forum and also post but just that all their posts will be pre moded. That means none of their posts will be visible in threads as soon as they post but only after a moderator goes through it and approves it.. only then will the post be visible to all members for reaction or comment. So it only increases the work load of the mods while we attempt to give another chance for the member to reform and be more responsible in posting and keeping this forum the best around.

So there is wishing all members a great time posting in this coming new year.
Nice of you guys but trust me, once the traffic gets high on this forum you will have to repeal this decision and bring back the ban. So far we have mostly our fellow Indians, French, Russian, American, Chinese and a few other smaller ones like Mauritians etc but once we have more people from some other nationalities as well who seem to have a rather insatiable thirst for trolling, you will need it.

Good idea. Keeps in spirit with the freedom of speech requirement of course with moderation for the known troublemakers. I wish some of this arrangement could also be organized for Arundhati Roy etal.

System is in place to take care of all known and unknown trouble makers. I know which nationality you are referring to. Don't worry. DFI will not become a troll's paradise.

If my guess of the nationality is right, then I dont think that nationality feels comfortable outside their cocoon..
