1. IAF wanted more powerful engine for LCA, and India requested 99 engines from foreign countries with local manufacturing, ge414 won against ej200, after that ADA started r&d of mk2.
2. 1st Indo-US DTTI failed, US proposed engine jv in 2nd DTTI, US companies rejected core & critical TOT, both gov cancelled jv.
3. New jv for 110 kn engine, no one interested in sharing core & critical TOT, and trying to acquire funds from India to develop their 4.5 engine further[plus looting]

All this talk by foreign engine companies about becoming partners in developing Indigenous engines is a smokescreen, meant to ensure that no meaningful developments take place in India even by mistake.

China never fell into this Western trap of co-development. Look how far ahead they are.

Go to others for TOT only at your own peril.

As far as I understand, deliveries of 118 Arjun Mk. 1A will be done with indigenous 1500hp engine & transmission, and keep the engine & transmission manufacturing factory running to upgrade the existing Arjun Mk. 1 to Mk. 1A standard.

Arjun Mk. 2 could use the brand new hull design with High Nitrogen Steel and for reducing the weight. Could be pitched for export. While Arjun Mk. 3 (actual FMBT) could use a new cannon and several new internal hardwares.
