Government initiates steps to extradite Dawood aid Iqbal Mirchi from London
New Delhi, Oct 12 (ANI):
Acknowledging the arrest of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's close aide, Iqbal Mirchi, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Wednesday said that the government shall take up measures to extradite him from London to face trial.
"We are going to take up Iqbal Mirchi issue with the British government and hopefully he will be extradited to India, " Krishna told the media here.
61-year-old Iqbal Memon alias Iqbal Mirchi was arrested in London on Tuesday for a local offence.
Mirchi is wanted by the Indian police in connection to cases related to drug peddling and serial blasts in Mumbai city in 1993.
According to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Mirchi against whom an Interpol red corner notice (international arrest warrant) was pending since 1994, is being interrogated by the British police. (ANI)
