Biharis? Bangladeshis? or Pakistanis?
Stateless and Identityless people.
They are Hindi-Urdu speaking Muslims, and descendants thereof, who moved from Bihar to East Pakistan or East Bengal during Partition of 1947. During the Bengali Language revolution and the subsequent Bangladesh Liberation War, they sided with West Pakistan. They enjoyed the protection of Pakistani government and collaborated with them, and are also referred to as Razakars.
Pakistan eventually surrendered, and while the Indian Army was protecting the Pakistani PoWs, the Mukti-Bahini cadres publicly executed many of these Razakars.
Some survived.
Of them, some escaped to southern Assam to save themselves from the Mukti-Bahini cadres, who at that time, were well armed and full of vengeance. Some were restricted to camps, like the Geneva Camp in Dhaka.
The current generation has nothing to do with the Bangladesh Liberation War. Pakistan refuses to take them. Those that moved into India are called Bangladeshis by Indians. Those that remained in Bangladesh are called Biharis by Bangladeshis.
They are state-less, right-less, future-less.
