TOI reported that missile was fired for its fullest range which is 10000 km. Now thats what I call psy warfare. A5 is a fullblown ICBM of 10000km range . Makes me wonder whether A3 andA5 and A6 are really Surya missiles in disguise. I mean A3, A5 and A6 are very different from A2, A1 and A4.
A3 was basically designed to carry heavy pay load 2.5 tons to chinese target. A2, A1 and A4 can carry a bit higher than 1 ton payload, A3 can carry more than double payload anywhere in china. A5 can carry 1.5 tot to atleast 5800 Km where as A6 will carry atleast 3 tons to atleast 6000 KM.

India tests nuclear weapon that can STRIKE BRITAIN in devastating show of strength
Pathetic reporting by typical racist, self-centered Brits. Will they ever utter anything positive about India?:frusty:

Idiot Brits should learn from Russian news outlets.

India has successfully tested its most powerful Agni-V ballistic missile, which is capable of carrying nuclear warheads, the country’s Defense Ministry announced. PM Narendra Modi dubbed the launch a “tremendous strength” of the country’s defense.
The launch took place at about 10:30am Monday local time, from Kalam Island off the coast of India’s eastern state of Odischa. Defense Minister Pranab Mukherjee confirmed the latest show of force in a twitter message.

“I congratulate @DRDO_India scientists for the successful test of Agni-V missile, and further strengthening India's defence capabilities,” the statement said.

The locally built Agni-5 missile is a three-stage, solid propellant intercontinental ballistic missile measuring 17 meters in length and two meters in diameter. The surface-to-surface missile has a payload capacity of over one ton and can carry a nuclear warhead at a distance of over 5,000 kilometers.

The respective range cements India’s presence in an exclusive club of states (including US, Russia, China, France and the UK) whose ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads can reach other continents. The latest test is the fourth for Agni-V and the second one from a canister on a Road Mobile Launcher.

Successful test firing of Agni V makes every Indian very proud. It will add tremendous strength to our strategic defence.

2:15 PM - 26 Dec 2016

Modi cheered the successful launch, saying it boosts the country’s strategic capabilities. "[The] successful test firing of Agni V makes every Indian very proud. It will add tremendous strength to our strategic defense," the Prime Minister said in a statement.

His view was echoed by other top officials, including Information Minister Rajyavardhan Rathor. The successful launch “reinforces India's position as a military might,” Rathor wrote in a tweet.

India currently has four types of Agni missiles of various range capability. The Agni-1 has a range of 700km, Agni-2 can reach a target at 2,000km, Agni-3 has a range of 2,500km and Agni-4 has a range of over 3,500km.

The Agni-5 is the first Indian missile that has a range sufficient to hit any target in neighboring Pakistan or China.

India and Pakistan are engaged in a regional arms race amid a decades-long rivalry dating back to Britain’s partitioning of its Indian protectorate into what now are India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Pakistan is also working on its ballistic missile technologies. In December 2015, Islamabad successfully tested its medium range Shaheen-III nuclear-capable ballistic missile with a range of 2,750 kilometers.

Starting to think we should flood Brit forums and SM with memes saying like "thank you Britain for aid money!!! keep sending us more, we keep making more missiles and satellite".

We have tried telling them for years that their so-called aid means nothing to us, they don't seem to be getting the point. Might as well troll them and atleast enjoy it.

After Agni-V test, China hopes for strategic balance in South Asia

BEIJING: China today hoped that India's testing of the nuclear-capable Agni-5 intercontinental ballistic missile complied with UN Security Council rules and safeguarded South Asia's strategic balance even as Beijing maintained that the two nations are "not rivals but partners".
Taking exception to reports that the successful test of Agni-V was meant to target China, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said, "On your question on India test firing the Agni-5 ballistic missile, we have noted relevant reports," to a question at a media briefing here.

"On whether India can develop this ballistic missile that can carry nuclear weapons, I think relevant resolutions of the UNSC have clear rules," she said without elaborating.

"We have always believed that safeguarding strategic balance and stability in South Asia is conducive for the peace and prosperity of countries in the region," she said.

The reference to the strategic balance in South Asia apparently referred to the military balance between India and Pakistan.

Agni-5, a 5,000-km range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) is widely regarded as a strategic missile targeted at China as it can reach almost all parts of the Chinese mainland.

Hua also criticised media reports in India and outside referring to the Agni-5 as targeted at China and aimed at correcting India's strategic balance with Beijing.

"On the test firing by India, we have also noted that some media, including Indian media and also some Japanese media, have speculated on whether this act of India is targeted at China," she said.

"I think, as to India's intentions, you have to ask the Indian side," she said adding that India and China are not rivals but partners.

"As for us, we think that the leaders of China and India have an important consensus which is that China and India are both important developing countries and emerging economies," she said.

"China and India are not rivals but partners. The Chinese side is willing to work with countries in the region including India to jointly safeguard lasting peace, prosperity and stability of the region," she said and asked media to report more objectively.

"We also hope that relevant media outlets do not indulge in arbitrary speculations and make objective reports and do more things conducive to developing mutual trust between China and India and peace and stability in the region," she said.

Experts say that proven ICBM capability currently exists only with the five major powers - the US, Russia, France, the UK and China.

Russia's land-based Satan missile can reach 16,000 kms, while China has ICBMs that can hit targets up to 13,000 kms. While India is part of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), China is not

What aid? Hamara hi paisa chura ke loot ke hame hi deke ehsaan jata rahain hain. India should have taken Britain to International court and tribunal for the atrocities they had done and sued them for every Indian life they had taken and should have claimed every penny they had looted be it gold, arts, mineral wealth everything. If Germany was made to pay Jews and Poland and other nations for world war atrocities then why should we let Britain off the hook.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying's Regular Press Conference on December 27, 2016

Q: Further to India's successful test of a continental ballistic missile yesterday that can reach most part of Asia and Europe, I would like to have your reaction.
A: We have noted reports on India's test fire of Agni-V ballistic missile. The UN Security Council has explicit regulations on whether India can develop ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons.:rofl::rofl: China always maintains that preserving the strategic balance and stability in South Asia is conducive to peace and prosperity of regional countries and beyond.
Now lets check the UNSC 1172

http://www.mofa.go.jp/mofaj/gaiko/naruhodo/data/pdf/data6-1.pdf

only these paras refer to missile

7. Calls upon India and Pakistan immediately to stop their nuclear weapon development programmes, to refrain from weaponization or from the deployment of nuclear weapons, to cease development of ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons and any further production of fissile material for nuclear weapons, to confirm their policies not to export equipment, materials or technology that could contribute to weapons of mass destruction or missiles capable of delivering them and to undertake appropriate commitments in that regard;
8. Encourages all States to prevent the export of equipment, materials or technology that could in any way assist programmes in India or Pakistan for nuclear weapons or for ballistic missiles capable of delivering such weapons, and welcomes national policies adopted and declared in this respect;
aforesaid does not explicitly regulate on whether India can develop ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons, it merely called up India and Pak.

Now lets see what was Chinese stand when we first tested on 2012 and afterwards up to yesterday (26.12.2016)

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-17765653

A spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry, Liu Weimin, said his country was not threatened by the test.

"China and India are large developing nations. We are not competitors but partners," he said.

"We believe that both sides should cherish the hard-won good state of affairs at present, and work hard to uphold friendly strategic co-operation to promote joint development and make positive contributions towards maintaining peace and stability in the region."

Earlier, the state-owned China Central Television (CCTV) said the test was "a historic moment for India and it shows that India has joined the club of the countries that own ballistic missiles", Associated Press reported.

I was wondering myself what the heck 'explicit regulations' the Chini lady was blabbering about. I guess we should start taking Chini press briefings as seriously as we takes Pakis.

Anyway, it means they are rattled. Good.

here comes the MEA reply

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/...targeted-against-any-nation-mea/1/844161.html
New Delhi, Dec 27 (PTI) Maintaining that its strategic capabilities were not targeted against any particular country, India today said it abides by all applicable international obligations and expects others do the same, while responding to Chinese reaction to its test-firing of Agni V missile.

"Indias strategic capabilities are not targeted against any particular country. India abides by all the applicable international obligations and hopes that all other do the same.

"Indias strategic autonomy and growing engagement contributes to strategic stability," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

The Spokespersons remarks came after Chinese Foreign Ministry hoped that Indias test-firing of the nuclear-capable Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile that could cover all of China complied with UN Security Council rules and safeguarded South Asias strategic balance.
When we say that, "India abides by all the applicable international obligations and hopes that all other do the same." we are aiming back at China for this...........

China is actively helping Pakistan with nuclear reactors and had help them with nuclear delivery systems in past.

They wanted to bully India by prompting Pakistan but ended up loosing the balance yet again.

I hope they will learn to hold this pork soup of strategic balance with the help of Pakistan.

With fourth successful test, Agni-5 to join missile arsenal

The Agni-5 intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM) was successfully test-fired on Monday morning from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, off the Odisha coast. The missile’s payload splashed down twenty minutes after launch, precisely on target in the Southern Indian Ocean.

“All the radars, tracking systems and Range Stations tracked and monitored the flight performance and all the mission objectives were successfully met”, announced the defence ministry.

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar tweeted their congratulations after the test. “It will add tremendous strength to our strategic defence”, said the PM.

This is the fourth successive Agni-5 test launch that has gone to plan since the first launch on April 19, 2012. Today’s test was the second in full operational mode, with the missile launched from its storage canister.
The road-mobile canister protects the deployed missiles, allowing them to be stored for years. Yet, it permits launch in minutes, including the time needed for mating the nuclear warhead (stored separately) with the missile.
The Agni-5 is now ready to enter service with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) as the backbone of India’s China-specific nuclear deterrent. Its 5,000-kilometre range allows it to deliver a nuclear payload anywhere in China.

To understand the ultra-modern Agni-5, Business Standard visited the Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL) in Hyderabad, the DRDO facility that has designed, developed and built all India’s Prithvi and Agni ballistic missiles.
Ballistic missiles work on the same principle as lobbing a stone at a target.

The impetus and direction imparted while throwing the stone (or launching the missile) determines where they will land.

The launch starts with the “boost phase”, when the missile is propelled into space. A powerful gas generation system in the canister rapidly builds up 300 tonnes of pressure, popping the missile out, like a bullet. In less than half a second, when the missile is 10-15 metres above the canister, the first stage ignites, accelerating the missile upwards. Within 30 seconds, it goes supersonic and, within 90 seconds, when the first stage burns out, the Agni-5 is hurtling upwards at one-and-a-half kilometres each second.

Designing and validating the canister was a key challenge, which was tackled after the first two Agni-5s were launched from open launch pads. This involved conducting two “pop-up tests” (technically “ejection tests”), in which a dummy missile was ejected from the canister to test the gas generation and the command to ignite the first stage.

While the Agni-5’s first stage is built from conventional “maraging steel”, the second and third stages are built from lightweight, new-age composite materials. The second stage, which burns for 80 seconds, takes the missile 170 kilometres above earth; and the third stage, which separates after a minute, carries the payload up to 260 kilometres. With all three propulsion stages separated, all that is left is the payload --- the tip of the missile.

With the “boost phase” over, the missile enters its “ballistic phase”. Like a lobbed stone, it is carried towards the target purely on momentum. Ten minutes after launch, it reaches the top of its parabolic path, about 580 kilometres above earth. Then gravity begins pulling it down towards the impact point.

Deep in space here, with no atmosphere to allow aerodynamic steering with fins, course correction is done with small “side-thruster rockets”, to correct any errors that crept in during the launch.

By the time the payload reaches the upper edge of the atmosphere, it is hurtling downwards at about 5-6 kilometres per second. This is the most technologically challenging part of the launch --- the re-entry stage.

As the missile comes in contact with the atmosphere, friction heats its outer surface to 4,000 degrees Centigrade, while the payload inside (in wartime, a 200 KiloTonne nuclear bomb) must be maintained at 50 degrees Centigrade. This is done by building the re-entry vehicle from a thick block of carbon composite material, compressing it with pressures of up to 1,000 atmospheres.

“A diamond is created when 10,000 atmospheres of pressure are exerted on carbon. So we are effectively creating one-tenth of a diamond”, quips one of the scientists.

At the target end, in the stretch of ocean between the southern tips of Africa and Australia, radar-equipped naval warships are pre-positioned to monitor where the missile strikes. There is no scope for error beyond a few hundred metres.

Manufacturing the Agni-4 and Agni-5 at full-scale production rates will include more than 200 private sector industries, many of which have played roles in developing the missiles. The DRDO itself manufactures key components, like rocket motors; but even for those, private firms build components like casings and nozzles. As they gain experience, a band of low profile, high-tech private firms, like Sigma Micro Systems, VEM Technologies, and Resin Allied and Products (RAP) are emerging as players in the missile field.

China is rattled. They have realised that they cannot arm twist India so the latest is a threat to go to UNSC.
Suddenly Chini found that no one is complaining not even Pakis. Others in Europe or Russia dont care. So they had no option but to cry.
