yeah, we can reach deep inside China, BTW best part was its 900 km altitude which it reached on first test that will qualify it for ASAT role.
lets wait and see if China make any noise about this test.

Yes if with a single MaRV (<500 kg) it can reach 5.5 k, then this is specifically meant for china. Of course the A-5 will have multiple warheads. Of Course Delhi to beijing is <4000 km so it does the job even with 1 tonne payload. Good going DRDO. Can't wait for A-3, nirbhay and brahmos-A.

Payload.

Can you compare GSLV to PSLV?

i think its time PSLV takes a leaf out of A4 missile and achieve GSLV capability...

composite motor in pslv, shaurya and A3, A5... mouth watering..

(i too believed A4 has 2.5k range, unless both stages are composite motor)

4000 km range Agni-IV missile test-fired - Rediff.com India News

4000 km range Agni-IV missile test-fired

India on Wednesday test-fired its nuclear-capable strategic missile Agni-IV with a strike range of about 4000 km from a test range off Odisha coast.

It was test launched with the help of a mobile launcher from launch complex-4 of ITR at Wheeler Island, about 100 km from here, at about 1145 hours, defence sources said.

A high performance on-board computer with distributed avionics architecture and high speed reliable communication bus and a full Digital Control System were used to control and guide the missile to the target.

"It is equipped with modern and compact avionics to provide high level of reliability," a DRDO official said.

"The state-of-the-art Ring Laser Gyros based high accuracy INS (RINS) and Micro Navigation System (MINGS) complementing each other in redundant mode have been incorporated into the missile system in guidance mode," the sources said.

The sophisticated missile is lighter in weight and has two stages of solid propulsion. The payload, with a re-entry heat shield can withstand temperature of more than 3000 degree Celsius, a defence scientist said.

The missile is undergoing developmental trials by country's premier Defence Research and Development Organisation.

The last trial of the missile, carried out on November 15, 2011 from the same base, was successful.

The heat shield/composites can be used in longer range missiles (MIRV's) and
SLBM's.

What are the major differences between A4 and A3? Which one of them is more similar to the A5?

Agni 5 is a three stage missile A3 and A4 are both 2 stage. Generally 3 stage Ballistic missiles are
classified as ICBM's and 2 stage are IRBM's. Agni 5 has many of the same composites as Agni 3.
But Agni 4 even though it is 2 stage the range is close to Agni 5 and being lighter than 3 and 5
to achieve this is impressive. Agni 5 is the only cannisterized missile in the AGNI series it is rumored
an earlier version of Agni 4 was cannisterized and tested(?) in developing Agni 5.

Ok, good to know. Don't the A3 and 4 have very similar rages by the way? So the main difference is that the A4 is lighter while achieving similar range?

Agni 3 has a 3,000km + range fired from the Northeast it would hit Beijing. Fired with a reduced
payload from different parts of India it could still hit Beijing.

So the pic refers to the ranges with the lowest possible payload?
