Or it is china syndrome :)
China syndrome. YouTube lets them share videos of government 'doing' things in the Af-Pak theatre, watch Indian "propaganda" (latest Shahrukh Khan music video on the beaches), videos from Azad Kashmir, while Flickr lets them share pictures. Wikipedia lets them see facts which can be verified by citations from neutral sources. So in all, it's China syndrome more than anything to do with religion. There are countless sites out there which malign religions. Blocking YouTube, Flickr, or Wikipedia on grounds that "some content maligns Islam" is as brainless as blocking the entire internet "because some sites malign Islam".

On a side note, at least Chinese have access to Wikipedia and Flickr. :)

The point is they blocked the sites which are most popular, where anyone can upload pictures and videos of anything bad the Pakistani state does, as well as publish articles giving citations. Sure anyone can still upload videos to say Vimeo, images to Imageshack, and write blogs on Blogspot with the same citations, but then those aren't the places which the majority of the public would visit first for anything. YouTube, Flickr and Wikipedia are almost household names. Most (especially beginners to the Internet) don't even know there are alternatives to them.

More than content creation, it's the content consumption (by the Pakistani people), which the government seems to fear.

How Pakistani Taliban Is Like Facebook

By MAX FISHER on May 19, 2010 11:59am
The Pakistani government's relationship with the country's various insurgent groups, sometimes described generally under the broad term "Taliban," is complicated. Pakistan actively fights some, turns a blind eye to others, and is often accused of secretly backing some groups. What's less complicated is the Pakistani government's relationship with Facebook: The social networking site was blocked nationwide on Wednesday because of a single Facebook group that invites users to submit humorous drawing of the prophet Mohammad, a violation of Islamic law. Nitin Pai, a prominent Indian journalist and blogger, takes the opportunity to compare and contrast.
What Facebook Can Learn From Name-Changing Insurgent Groups "Dear Facebook: if the Pakistani govt bans you, you only have to resurface under a new name."
Pakistan Tougher on Facebook Than Terrorist Associates "What's the difference between Facebook and [terrorist-associated group] Jamaat-ud-Dawa? Ans: Facebook is banned in Pakistan."

How Facebook Is Like Pakistani Terror Groups "What's common to Facebook and Lashkar-e-Taiba? Ans: They are both banned in Pakistan, but Pakistanis can still find them if they want to."
'Good Facebook and Bad Facebook' Indian journalist Sidin Vadukut riffs off the oft-repeated claim that Pakistan can support certain insurgents because there is a "good" Taliban and a "bad" Taliban. He tweets, "Yes but why don't Pakistanis get that there is good Facebook and bad Facebook?"

The regulatory body said it has blocked more than 450 Internet links containing offensive material. It is unclear how many of the links were blocked in the last two days.

It is possible that such sites are all blocked as well. Its just that famous sites has been into headline.

But we cant be sure, some pakistani here can make clear what all others sites are blocked.

Facebook may make disputed page inaccessible in Pakistan

WASHINGTON: Facebook is disappointed at being blocked in Pakistan over a contest that encourages users to post caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and may make the offending page inaccessible to users there, the social network said late Wednesday.
"We are very disappointed with the Pakistani courts' decision to block Facebook without warning, and suspect our users there feel the same way," Facebook said in a statement to AFP.

"We are analyzing the situation and the legal considerations, and will take appropriate action, which may include making this content inaccessible to users in Pakistan," it said.

Pakistan blocked access to Facebook on a court order over a competition created by a Facebook user who set up a page called "Draw Mohammed Day," inviting people to send in caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) on May 20.

Islam strictly prohibits depictions of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) as blasphemous and Muslims around the world staged angry protests over the publication of satirical cartoons of the prophet in European newspapers in 2006.

The statement from the Palo Alto, California-based social network said "we want Facebook to be a place where people can openly discuss issues and express their views, while respecting the rights and feelings of others.

"With now more than 400 million users from around the world, we sometimes find people discussing and posting about topics that others may find controversial, inaccurate, or offensive," it said.

"While some kinds of comments and content may be upsetting for someone — criticism of a certain culture, country, religion, lifestyle, or political ideology, for example — that alone is not a reason to remove the discussion," it said.

"We strongly believe that Facebook users have the freedom to express their opinions, and we don't typically take down content, groups or pages that speak out against countries, religions, political entities, or ideas."

The statement noted that "Nazi content is illegal in some countries" but said "that does not mean it should be removed entirely from Facebook."

"Most companies approach this issue by preventing certain content from being shown to users in the countries where it is illegal and that is our approach as well,
